Former President Donald Trump took a lot of heat from the media and from his political enemies on the Democratic side for his insistence on building a better wall at the southern U.S. border.
One of the first items on President Joe Biden’s executive order list involved canceling future wall construction, however, according to the Washington Examiner, if Republicans manage to pull off a majority victory after the 2022 midterm elections, border wall construction will most likely resume, members of the House GOP confirmed.
An effective tool
One could easily argue that Biden’s cancellation of the border wall project, which was finally going along swimmingly toward the end of Trump’s term in the White House, could be playing a significant role in the reason why so many illegal immigrants continue to pour across the border into the United States at a record pace.
There have been a number of media images showing illegal immigrants and smugglers literally walking or, in some cases, driving through wide-open gaps in the existing wall. Plugging those gaps and continuing wall construction could literally be one of the most simple, yet insanely effective deterrents that would mitigate the number of illegal border crossers.
House Conference Committee Chairwoman Liz Cheney, who is certainly not a Trump fan, agrees that the border wall is a tool that is currently much needed at the southern U.S. border, given how bad the situation has spiraled out of control under Biden.
“I think we need to look at every possible tool,” Cheney said. “That includes the wall, and it includes technology and being able to move again toward agreements where people who are seeking asylum stay in Mexico.”
Like her or not, she’s right on the money. Even Cheney is able to take politics out of the equation for a few seconds and admit that continuing border wall construction is absolutely paramount to making a dent in the illegal immigration numbers.
Biden’s Trump Derangement Syndrome
It’s painfully obvious that Biden’s move to halt construction on the border wall was nothing more than a politically strategic move to appease his liberal, anti-Trump base, as he even went as far as cutting off construction in areas where the materials were already paid for, as Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) recently pointed out.
“We’ve already purchased the materials,” Hudson said. “They’re already sitting on the job site, and we are paying the contractors, now, to not build the wall.”
Cutting off construction efforts have led to an increased number of those gaping holes in the existing wall, giving virtually a free pass to smugglers to flow through at their convenience, as U.S. Border Patrol agents are no longer able to perform the duties they were hired for, given the extreme number of illegals crossing the border daily.
Biden’s refusal to admit that finishing the wall would be at least a partial solution to the immigration crisis is telling, even giving credence to some who believe that the Biden administration actually has no intention of tackling the crisis.
Only time will tell if Republicans manage to win back majority control but at this point, it might be our only hope in stopping Biden and Democrats from continuing to look the other way as the immigration crisis continues to worsen.
