Many critics of Vice President Kamala Harris have noted her strange and persistent habit of laughing at odd times, with the latest example coming this week.
During a speaking event at Guilford Technical Community College in North Carolina on Monday, Harris attempted to make a joke about hard hats, The Daily Caller reported.
“These opportunities are equally available to women as well as men,” Harris told the audience, who responded with applause.
“Because,” the vice president continued, “there’s an interesting fact, in case you didn’t know. Hard hats are actually unisex. Everybody’s laughing.”
Harris laughed about child care
In reality, video footage of her remarks showed that the only one laughing was Harris. While some isolated chuckles eventually emerged, most of those in attendance seemed to be sitting in awkward silence.

The incident comes less than a month after Harris broke into laughter while speaking to parents about the difficulty of finding affordable childcare during the COVID pandemic while schools have been closed.
“More people are seeing that, yeah, affordable child care is a big deal,” she told an audience at the West Haven Child Development Center in March. “More parents are seeing the value of educators when they had to bring their kids [home] and say we’re not paying them nearly enough,” she adding while laughing hysterically.
Border question brought cackles
Harris also drew criticism after a reporter asked her on March 22 if she had any plans to visit America’s southern border. The vice president burst out laughing and replied “Not today!”
Her reaction brought a stern rebuke from Texas Sen. John Cornyn (R), who contended that what is happening on the border in his state is “no laughing matter.”
The Republican lawmaker told Fox News that he wished both “the vice president and president would come to the border,” adding he would be “be glad to welcome them” and show the pair what he has seen.
He noted that “the Border Patrol is telling us that you cannot build enough facilities, you cannot build enough capacity to keep up with the expected increase in flow of people coming across the border.”
