A top producer for Fox News and the Fox Business Network died of the coronavirus over the weekend at only 52 years old, The Hill reported.
The late Eric Spinato performed various roles at Fox News since beginning at the network in 1998, including booking producer and story editor.
He departed from the network in 2004 but returned three years later, according to The Hill.
Family and Fox News remember Spinato
A memo to Fox staffers held up the late Spinato as “instrumental to the growth and entrepreneurial success” of the company over his 23 year tenure.
“Eric was an immensely gifted and aggressive booker and was renown for booking the innumerable ‘gets,'” reads the memo obtained by The Hill. “Many of us can probably recall the cheerful greetings and outreach we received from Eric over his many years here.”
Spinato’s brother, Dean Spinato, posted on his brother’s passing in an Instagram post on Sunday.
“I love you bro. You were my rock. COVID took my brother today. He was a gem and one of a kind. I’m so broken and lost for words. This man was an amazing father, brother and friend,” he wrote.
Colleagues recall fond memories
As word of Spinto’s passing spread, those who knew him took to social media where they shared words of praise and remembrance.
Among them was Erin Perrine, who serves as communications director to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R). Perrine tweeted, “If you’ve ever booked before, you probably know Eric.”
“Eric was a great guy,” the Republican staff member recalled, describing Spinato as being “outgoing and gracious with advice” and calling his death “a devastating loss for his family, loved ones, and the entire Fox team.”
Real Clear Politics White House correspondent Philip Melanchthon Wegmann tweeted that the loss of Spinato was “awful news.”
Veteran cable news producer Pamela K. Brown said Spinato had been “a real pro” who she was glad to have worked with. “I am deeply saddened to learn of Eric Spinato’s passing. I hired him for “Fox Files” and worked with him before FOX,” Brown tweeted. “Spinato (and I called him SPINATO!) was an uber booker and knew what it takes to get people to agree to be interviewed–ON CAMERA. He was a real pro.”
