Through spokesperson, Harris snubs Biden directive on border enforcement

Kamala Harris loves political power, obviously. But what about the responsibilities that come with that power?

President Joe Biden said Wednesday that he was entrusting his VP with the “tough job” of responding to the border crisis, but there seems to have been a miscommunication about her role. In a not altogether surprising move, Harris is snubbing instructions from her boss to pressure Latin American countries to enforce their borders, Breitbart reported.

Harris ducks responsibility on border crisis

Biden has insisted that his lavish promises to Central American migrants have nothing to do with the current surge, opting instead to blame “root causes” deeply embedded in their home countries, like poverty, and Donald Trump’s “draconian” policies.

On Wednesday, Biden once again emphasized “root causes,” as Breitbart reported, but he also said that Harris would work with Central American countries to “accept returnees and enhance migration enforcement at their borders — at their borders.”

Perhaps it was an offhanded remark — or maybe Biden forgot that immigration restriction is verboten to Democrats — but Harris’ press secretary, Symone Sanders, offered no indication Friday that the VP would negotiate with those nations to keep their borders under control.

“The president asked the vice president to take on the diplomatic effort, with Mexico and countries in the northern triangle to address the root causes of migration,” Sanders said, according to Breitbart. “There are many reasons that move these folks to make this dangerous journey.”

Harris will also work on making it easier for migrants to apply for asylum from their home countries, officials said, according to Reuters.

The Biden “plan”

Whereas President Donald Trump put America first by pressuring Mexico and Central America to restrict migration, Biden’s “solution” is to throw billions of dollars in foreign aid at some of the poorest countries in the world, no strings attached, in a quixotic attempt to solve their problems.

How exactly are these “diplomatic efforts” going to reduce immigration? They won’t — and that’s the point, says Ken Cuccinelli.

According to Breitbart, the former deputy chief of Homeland Security under Trump called Harris’ move an “amazing dismissal” that shows Biden and Harris “actually want large numbers of illegal aliens to come into the country.”

The immigration restriction group FAIR similarly criticized Biden for choosing a “staunch foe of immigration enforcement to deal with the border crisis he denies even exists.” Indeed, you have to wonder about Biden’s priorities when he says he’ll get to the border “at some point.” (Harris is “not doing the border” either, of course.)

It seems that Biden and Harris are willing to consider every “solution” under the sun — everything except enforcing the immigration laws.
