The woman who has accused Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her recently came forward to highlight a glaring double standard being applied to the now-president.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Tara Reade blasted the media for its hypocrisy when it comes to claims of sexual misconduct, as mainstream outlets continue to hammer New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) over allegations against him while ignoring her own accusations against Biden.
It all comes as President Biden refuses to call for Cuomo to resign, a break from many in his party, including both U.S. senators from New York, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D), as TIME magazine notes.
“Very real” trauma
Biden has pushed for an investigation into Cuomo, but has stopped short of urging the governor to step down.
“A woman should be presumed to be telling the truth and should not be scapegoated and become victimized by her coming forward,” Biden said in a recent interview with ABC News, according to Fox. “But there should be an investigation to determine whether what she says is true.”
To Reade, however, it’s just further evidence of a double standard both from the White House and the media that largely worships it.
“The alarming deflection and compliance of the media to allow Joe Biden to negate his own sexual misconduct is predictable but still shocking as a survivor to be so publicly erased,” she told Fox.
“The trauma I experienced by Biden was very real,” Reade added. “The fact he is calling for another official’s investigation and possible criminal sanctions for similar charges is showing the height of arrogance about never being accountable for his own.”
President anyway
Reade first accused Biden in 2019 of inappropriately touching her. At the time, she explained that the incidents had occurred in 1993, when she was a Senate staffer and Biden represented the state of Delaware in the upper chamber.
“He used to put his hand on my shoulder and run his finger up my neck,” Reade said, according to NBC News. “I would just kind of freeze and wait for him to stop doing that.”
Roughly a year later, Reade alleged publicly that Biden had pushed her up against a wall and “penetrated” her “with his fingers.” Biden, for his part, has “unequivocally” denied the allegations, as NBC notes.
Still, Reade says there hasn’t even been an investigation into her claims; instead, Biden has been given the golden ticket to the Oval Office. “Joe Biden got away with sexually harassing and assaulting me in 1993 and other women have also come forward with similar complaints,” Reade told Fox News. “Joe Biden ascended to the presidency anyway.”
