Sen. Tim Scott wins coveted Donald Trump endorsement for 2022 midterm elections

According to the polls, it was made crystal clear at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference that an endorsement from former President Donald Trump carries with it the power of one of the most popular figures in the Republican party in modern American history.

According to The Hill, Senator Tim Scott (R-NC) is the latest GOP politician up for re-election in 2022 to receive the coveted endorsement, which was revealed on Tuesday in an official statement from the former president’s “Save America” PAC.

Why the endorsement?

The 45th president, so far, has only officially endorsed one other Republican candidate for the upcoming elections, which was an endorsement for former White House aide Max Miller, who is set to challenge Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH) after Gonzalez joined with a small handful of GOP lawmakers who voted in favor of impeaching Trump.

Though Scott was sometimes not a fan of Trump’s rhetoric with concern to race in America, the North Carolina senator has been seen as one of Trump’s allies in the upper chamber on a majority of issues, including his work on a Trump-led police reform bill that was ultimately blocked by Senate Democrats.

Trump’s statement on his endorsement of Scott, the only Black Republican senator, left no questions as to how the former president feels about Scott’s work so far.

“It is my great honor to give Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina my complete and total endorsement,” Trump wrote. “He is both an outstanding senator and person who works tirelessly for the people of his great state, and the USA. Strong on the military, law enforcement, loves our vets, protects our Second Amendment and our borders. Tim will continue to do an OUTSTANDING job for our country!”

Scott has pledged to only spend two terms as a senator and is expected to have a fairly easy 2022 midterm election campaign on his path to securing term number two.

Game on

As predicted by many pundits, Trump is expected to wield his undeniable power and influence in the next election, when Republicans hope to take back one, or possibly both, chambers of Congress.

For GOP candidates interested in waging primary battles against Republican lawmakers who voted to impeach or convict the former president, Trump made clear in a recent statement that primary challenges are at the top of his priority list, according to Business Insider.

“Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First,” Trump wrote in a previous statement.

The next likely Republican victim of Trump’s mission of revenge primaries could be Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), who was especially critical of the former president following the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. She essentially blamed Trump for playing a role in sparking the tragic events.

Trump’s endorsements in the past have resulted in a vast majority of victories for those who receive his blessing and something tells me that an endorsement from the 45th president will be nothing less than a golden ticket for Republicans in 2022.
