Duchess of Sussex and actress Meghan Markle may have her sights set on becoming America’s first female president, according to the Daily Mail.
According to an anonymous “veteran of Tony Blair’s Downing Street administration with strong links to Washington,” Markle is “networking among senior Democrats” to lay the ground work for a future White House run, the British outlet reported.
Another anonymous source reportedly told the paper, “The Blairite, internationalist and Democratic Party networks are buzzing with talk about Meghan’s political ambitions and potential backers.”
Meghan and Harry in politics
The paper noted that Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, “have made little secret” of their left-leaning political preferences.
In a not-so-subtle attack against former President Donald Trump during last year’s presidential election, the couple urged voters to “reject hate speech.”
“When we vote, our values are put into action, and our voices are heard,” Markle said in a video published in September. “Your voice is a reminder that you matter — because you do — and you deserve to be heard.”
Prince Harry chimed in: “This election, I’m not going to be able to vote in the U.S. But many of you may not know that I haven’t been able to vote in the U.K. my entire life. As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.”
Trump addressed Markle’s comments at a press conference in September, stating, “I’m not a fan of hers … and she probably has heard that. But I wish a lot of luck to Harry, ’cause he’s gonna need it.”
Markle accused of bullying staff members
Markle’s profile has risen this month following a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in which she claimed to have suffered racism at the hands of other royals.
However, allegations have surfaced that Markle was herself abusive toward members of the royal staff during her time living in England.
Fox News reported earlier this month that Markle has been accused of screaming at staff for “minor infractions” while making “hyper-specific demands.”
According to the New York Daily News, Buckingham Palace has hired an outside law firm to investigate the bullying allegations.
