Report: Hunter Biden under scrutiny for possible felony over 2018 gun purchase

Between a question of paternity, shady international business deals, and a government investigation into his taxes, Hunter Biden has been in the press a lot recently. But new reports suggest these scandals may have been just the tip of the iceberg.

In the course of his misadventures, Hunter Biden may have committed a felony by lying about his notorious drug habit to purchase a gun, Politico reports.

More trouble for Hunter

It seems that Hunter Biden has a careless habit of leaving compromising evidence lying around. Before November’s election, his laptop infamously became a source of intrigue after a Delaware repairman shared its contents with the media. This time, it’s a revolver left in a trash can that has the president’s son in the spotlight.

According to Politico, Hallie Biden, the widow of Hunter’s late brother Beau who later dated Hunter, had dropped a .38 revolver in the garbage behind a high-end grocery store that the Bidens frequent, near a high school, and later found it was gone when Hunter demanded she retrieve it.

The Delaware Police and FBI got involved. For reasons that are not clear, the Secret Service reportedly approached the dealer who sold Hunter Biden the gun and asked for transaction records from the original sale in October 2018. He refused, suspecting they were trying to conceal Hunter’s ownership of it in case it had been used in a crime.

Lying on the form?

The gun seller eventually handed over the documentation, which Politico has obtained, to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). They include the question: “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”

Hunter Biden reportedly answered no, despite a notorious drug habit that got him kicked out of the Navy for cocaine use. And as Politico reported, “Lying on the form is a felony, though prosecutions for it are exceedingly rare.”

The gun later turned up when a man who went rooting through the trash for recyclables found it.

Secret Service denies

Over the course of the police investigation, Hunter Biden told officers that he believed Hallie was in fear he would kill himself. Still, Politico noted that it would be inappropriate for Secret Service to get involved in a matter being investigated by the FBI and police.

Strangely, the Secret Service denies any record of their involvement in the case. “U.S. Secret Service records confirm that the agency did not provide protection to any member of the Biden family in 2018, and that the Secret Service had no involvement in this alleged incident,” the agency told Politico.

Text messages on Hunter’s infamous laptop say otherwise, however, as the New York Post reported:

She stole the gun out of my trunk lock box and threw it in a garbage can full to the top at Jansens [sic]. Then told me it was my problem to deal with. Then when the police[,] the FBI[,] the secret service came on the scene she said she took it from me because she was scared I would harm myself due to my drug and alcohol problem and our volatile relationship and that she was afraid for the kids. Really not joking the cop kept me convinced that Hallie was implying she was scared of me.

It all comes after Hunter Biden revealed in December that his taxes were under investigation — and of course, many questions remain unanswered about his foreign business dealings. With that and new inquiries that have arisen from Politico’s latest report, the scrutiny on the Biden family likely won’t be letting up any time soon.
