A Chicago police sergeant was shot in the face Sunday afternoon in the parking lot outside the 6th district precinct, Fox News reported.
According to Police Superintendent David O. Brown, the sergeant has a graze wound to the chin from the bullet and was taken to the hospital in good condition. His identity has not yet been released.

Investigation ongoing
Authorities currently have no suspects in the shooting of the officer and are continuing to investigate, Brown said. It was not clear whether the sergeant was intentionally targeted.
“We are scouring video here and at the station as well as pod video, CCTV video, private, nearby,” Brown said, according to Chicago’s WGN-TV.
In a tweet, Brown said the sergeant was the 13th officer shot or shot at this year alone. Last year, a total of 79 officers were shot or shot at.
This year’s numbers are on a course to pass last year’s, Brown said. The sergeant, a 26-year veteran of the force, was the first this year to be hit.
“Enormous level of resiliency”
“Our officers display an enormous level of resiliency and put themselves in harm’s way each and every day, whether it’s responding to a call or simply standing in their own parking lot,” Brown said.
Chicago has one of the highest numbers of shootings of any city in the country.
Last year, 4,033 people were shot in the city, and 875 died from gun violence, according to local Chicago ABC station WLS-TV. Those numbers are a significant increase from 2019, when 2,598 people were shot.
Frustration from coronavirus lockdowns, riots that began after George Floyd’s death while in police custody in Minneapolis, and subsequent attacks on policing likely contributed to the higher number of shootings and gun deaths.
Prior to 2020, gun deaths and violence in the city had been dropping along with the unemployment rates in minority communities and overall, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
