Kamala Harris admits ‘intentional purpose’ of relief bill is bolstering social aid, unrelated to COVID

Democrats are no longer hiding their real intentions behind the recently passed $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill.

Vice President Kamala Harris admitted that at least part of the massive spending bill had nothing to do with the coronavirus and everything to do with implementing social policies desired by the Democrats, Fox News reported.

“This was the intentional purpose”

Harris made the admission Friday during a stop in New Haven, Connecticut, where she focused on how the massive COVID bill, also known as the American Rescue Plan, addresses “child poverty.”

“This was the intentional purpose of the American rescue plan, which was to look at child care, to look at our child care workers, to look at our children, to bring them out of poverty,” Harris said. “And to do what has long been overlooked, which is to understand that our children — we cannot in public policy subordinate them, as you know, is because I guess they’re little people, little problems.”

The vice president claimed that many aspects of the American Rescue Plan indirectly benefit children, such as the direct payments and the extension of unemployment benefits.

There were also provisions of the bill, she said, that were more direct, such as the increase to the Child Tax Credit which is normally $2,000, but was increased by as much as $1,600 from the legislation.

The Earned Income Tax Credit was also increased.

An admission against self-interest

Wittingly or unwittingly, Harris has admitted that one of the Republicans’ major criticisms of the American Rescue Plan is true.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (D-CA), one of the bill’s main critics, pointed out on a number of occasions, both before and after the bill was passed, that it had very little to do with COVID relief, but instead was being used to advance Democrats’ interests.

“This is a waste of money, less than 9% is going to COVID,” McCarthy said on one occasion, Fox reported. “This is a payoff to [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi’s political friends.”

Many Republicans accurately referred to the American Rescue Plan as the Democrats’ “wish list.”

Americans shouldn’t forget that Democratic leadership in Congress fought tool and nail to keep another COVID relief bill from passing when former President Donald Trump was in office. Now that they’re in power, they’re happy to send the country further into debt while advancing their agenda, all the while pretending they’re for the little guy.
