Biden dispatches team to US-Mexico border to address exploding immigration crisis: Report

An exploding crisis at the U.S.–Mexico border is far more serious than President Joe Biden has been willing to acknowledge, according to reports.

While downplaying a surge in unaccompanied child migration, Biden has been forced to dispatch a top team to the border to get a handle on the situation, Fox News reported Thursday.

White House walks it back

When Biden was asked about the crisis on Tuesday, he said there was nothing to worry about. “No — we will be able to handle it, God willing,” Biden said, according to Fox.

But by Thursday, the White House seemed to acknowledge that something more serious is happening.

A spokesperson for the administration reportedly announced that Biden is sending top staff to the border to “provide a full briefing to him on the government response to the influx of unaccompanied minors and an assessment of additional steps that can be taken to ensure the safety and care of these children.”

Under Biden, rates of unaccompanied child migration are on a sharp uptick. Biden has already been forced to backtrack on promises to not detain children, despite slamming Trump for putting “kids in cages.”

Nothing to see here…

According to Axios, the number of unaccompanied child migrants being picked up by Health and Human Services (HHS) has gone up to 321 per day as of the week ending March 1, from just 47 at the beginning of 2021. Shelters are already at 94% capacity, and HHS has asked for another 20,000 beds.

Axios also reported Friday that the Biden administration is allowing facilities for children to fill up to 100% capacity, despite guidance to keep capacity limited amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Biden administration is looking to release migrants further into the interior of the country to downplay the crisis, Breitbart reports, and the number of unaccompanied alien children (UACs) apprehended this year is expected to reach 117,000, a surge of almost 300% from 2020.

“Biden, please let us in”

Critics have warned for weeks that Biden has encouraged a crisis at the border with lax, liberal immigration policies.

Images of migrants at the border sporting, “Biden, please let us in” T-shirts have left little doubt that Biden’s approach has convinced many migrants that they will be welcomed with open arms. The president has even released COVID-positive migrants into the country, according to some reports.

Donald Trump, for his part, put out a lengthy statement Friday ripping Biden for creating a “tsunami,” according to the New York Post. The former president added:

When I left office, we had achieved the most secure border in our country’s history. Under Biden, it will soon be worse, more dangerous, and more out of control than ever before. He has violated his oath of office to uphold our Constitution and enforce our laws.
