Trump tells Tiger Woods to ‘get well soon’ following injuries sustained in car accident

Professional golfer Tiger Woods was involved in a serious car accident on Monday that caused significant injuries and has the potential to put his athletic career in jeopardy of a premature end.

Former President Donald Trump, an occasional golf partner of Woods, issued a brief statement Tuesday that wished his friend well in his recovery, the Washington Examiner reported.

Because Trump has been banned from virtually all major social media platforms, his message to Woods was shared on Twitter by Jason Miller, one of the former president’s top aides.

Miller tweeted, “Statement from Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America: ‘Get well soon, Tiger. You are a true champion!'”

Serious injuries

According to ESPN, the 45-year-old Woods was involved in a single-vehicle high-speed accident south of Los Angeles, California while going down a steep hill. He had been filming an instructional series for GolfTV following the conclusion of the Genesis Invitational tournament that he hosted but did not participate in due to lingering back issues.

Woods apparently lost control of his vehicle on the steep grade and went off the road before rolling down a hillside. Law enforcement officials do not believe that Woods was impaired at the time of the accident, and he was reportedly awake and lucid when first responders arrived on the scene.

Thanks to the seat belt and airbags, Woods survived the accident. Nevertheless, he suffered severe injuries to his right leg that required surgery to insert a rod to repair multiple breaks to his tibia and fibula as well as pins and screws to repair damage to his foot and ankle, according to a statement released by Woods and his doctor.

Presidential Medal of Freedom

The question on everyone’s mind now is, will Woods be able to recover from his injuries to not only play again, but perform at the dominant level he once did throughout a legendary career.

Only time will tell if Woods is ever able to swing the clubs like he used to, but nothing will ever take away the amazing accomplishments he had already achieved — a championship-winning attitude and performance that earned him the highest civilian honor in this country, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, bestowed upon him by then-President Trump in May 2019, according to NBC News.

“Tiger, we are inspired by everything you’ve become and attained,” Trump said at the time. “There are no winners like you.”

Woods thanked Trump, as well as his family for sticking with him through “the good and the bad, the highs and the lows.”

Woods is certainly among the top tier of the nation’s athletic heroes and we join the president in wishing him well as he takes time to recover from his horrible injuries.
