Even as San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin spent Valentine’s Day advocating for love on Twitter, three individuals were shot in his jurisdiction amid an escalating crime rape.
As of the latest updates available, police reports show that no suspects had been identified in the shooting. For his part, Boudin, who has been in office since 2019, took to Twitter on Sunday with a message in response to reports of rising hate crimes against Asians.

The prosecutor has drawn criticism from many detractors across the city and beyond for a perceived effort to drastically drop the rate of incarceration of potentially dangerous law-breakers.
Opposition to cash bail and decriminalization of certain offenses deemed sufficiently minor by Boudin’s office has been linked by some critics to a rise in criminal activity throughout San Francisco. The situation appears to have been further exacerbated by strict COVID-19 shutdowns and civil unrest resulting from protests throughout the past year.
Boudin’s association with the criminal justice system dates back to his parents’ convictions in connection with a robbery that left three people dead. His parents were reportedly part of the far-left terrorist organization known as the Weather Underground.
He was then adopted by other members of that group — its founder Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. They were fugitives in the 1970s for their participation in Weather Underground crimes.
“A Criminals-First Agenda”
That background likely helped form Boudin’s outlook on prosecuting crime, but the real mystery for many Americans lies in how he was ever elected district attorney in the first place.
To some extent, critics say it had something to do with the financial backing of billionaire George Soros.
During the election, San Francisco Police Officers Association President Sgt. Tony Montoya opposed Boudin’s candidacy based on his perceived soft-on-crime policies.
“You’re sending a very, very wrong message that you can come into San Francisco and do whatever you want, and there are no consequences,” he said at the time.
United Coalition of Public Safety President Paul Kelly spoke out against the incoming district attorney in his own statement, asserting: “San Francisco’s newly elected district attorney literally has a criminals-first agenda. Boudin’s decision not to charge Jamaica Hampton has put law enforcement lives in danger.”
