Police probe death of former NFL player Vincent Jackson, found dead in hotel room

NFL fans received some tragic news this week with the confirmation of one former player’s untimely death.

Reports indicate Vincent Jackson was found dead on Monday inside of a Florida hotel room. He was just 38.

“To the Buccaneers nation that adored him”

As TMZ reported, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death as of the latest updates available.

The retired football player had been the subject of a missing person report filed last week but was located alive on Friday at the same hotel where he would be found dead a few days later.

Jackson had played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and even served as an honorary deputy with the local sheriff’s office. The agency released a statement offering condolences to his loved ones.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said that his “heart aches for the many loved ones Vincent Jackson leaves behind, from his wife and children to the Buccaneers nation that adored him.”

His statement went on to describe the deceased athlete as “a devoted man … who put his family and community above everything else.”

“Shocked and deeply saddened”

In his own statement, Bryan Glazer, the Buccaneers’ chairman and co-owner, stated that the team is “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news of Jackson’s death.

“During his five seasons with our franchise, Vincent was a consummate professional, who took a great deal of pride in his performance on and off the football field,” Glazer wrote.

His statement continued with a fond recollection of Jackson’s public service and efforts to make ” a deep impact on our community through his unyielding advocacy for military families, supported by the Jackson in Action 83 Foundation.”

Originally from Colorado, Jackson attended Widefield High School in Colorado Springs before he went on to play for the University of Northern Colorado.

In addition to his time with the Buccaneers, his pro football career included a stint with the San Diego Chargers, which released its own statement regarding the sad news, calling Jackson “a fan favorite not only for his Pro Bowl play on the field but for the impact he made on the community off of it.”
