Hannity looks back on Rush Limbaugh’s devotion to his fans: ‘His bucket list was his audience’

In a crushing blow to conservatives across America, right-leaning talk radio legend Rush Limbaugh died last week from lung cancer at the age of 70. Now, Limbaugh’s conservative colleagues are speaking out about his incredible devotion to his fans, even as he underwent brutal treatments for the disease.

According to the Washington Examiner, Fox News host Sean Hannity said Sunday that though the cancer treatments “nearly killed him,” Limbaugh was willing to power through if it meant he’d get a little more time on the air.

“His bucket list was his audience,” Hannity told fellow Fox host Mark Levin during a Sunday appearance on Life, Liberty & Levin.

“He’d go through these treatments that nearly killed him — because I know people that have been through chemotherapy like this and cancer treatment like this, especially advanced-stage cancer, they nearly kill you to save you, or nearly kill you to buy you time, and that’s been the last year of his life,” Hannity explained, according to the Examiner.

“Nobody will do it better”

According to Hannity, “when [Limbaugh] was well enough, even when he really wasn’t well enough, his time, the way he wanted to spend it was with his audience.”

“That was his choice,” the Fox star stressed. “The people that listened to him, that was the top and only item on his bucket list.”

Hannity also remarked that Limbaugh’s unending dedication to his job “speaks volumes about him, how much he loved what he did.”

“He was born to do this. Nobody did it better. Nobody will do it better,” Hannity said, according to the Examiner. “It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that any major political issue that will come up, we’re not going to hear his voice.”

“The greatest fighter”

Levin, for his part, also shared a heartfelt tribute to Limbaugh — and some pointed words to his critics. “They never understood Rush. They didn’t want to understand Rush. They tried to destroy him,” Levin said.

“Those people do not matter to us,” he declared. “Those people are in their own sick little bubble and sick little world. They do that to all of our greats, whether it’s [Ronald] Reagan or Rush or [Donald] Trump or whomever it is.”

Limbaugh made headlines in February 2020 when President Trump took time out of his State of the Union address to award the broadcast legend the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

At the time, Trump thanked Limbaugh for his “decades of tireless devotion to our country,” as Fox News reported. “He is the greatest fighter and winner that you will ever meet,” Trump added.
