Footage shows golf legend Tiger Woods behind the wheel ahead of LA crash

Tiger Woods was left with serious leg injuries and is facing a “lengthy recovery” after a car accident in Los Angeles early Tuesday, Fox News reported.

Now, celebrity gossip site TMZ has obtained video of the golf legend driving his Genesis GV80 minutes before the incident that sent him to the hospital.

The footage from TMZ shows Woods driving along a divided road surrounded by homes. Below, a caption reads: “TMZ Sports obtained the first video of Tiger driving Tuesday morning on Hawthorne Blvd, minutes before the crash.”

“A single-car accident”

A statement posted to Woods’ official Twitter account on Tuesday expressed gratitude for “the overwhelming support” that fans had offered the golf icon, and indicated Woods was “currently aware, responsive, and recovering in his hospital room.”

“Tiger was involved in a single-car accident earlier this morning in California. He has undergone a long surgical procedure on his lower right leg and ankle after being brought to the hospital,” the statement read.

Chief medical officer and interim chief executive of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Dr. Anish Mahajan, also issued a statement revealing that Woods had sustained “significant injuries to his right lower extremity.”

The injuries included “open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones” that required “surgery by orthopedic trauma specialists,” Mahajan said.

A look ahead

Speaking with local news affiliate told KABC-TV, Dr. William Stetson, who didn’t treat Woods personally but who serves as team surgeon for USA men’s and women’s volleyball teams, speculated as to what sort of recovery the athlete can look forward to in the months ahead.

“Typically with injuries like that, patients are not allowed to bear any weight on it for the first four to six weeks,” Stetson said, as Fox News reported. “You probably won’t be able to put a full amount of weight on it until maybe three months after the surgery,” he added, noting that it could be anywhere from nine months to a year “for or any sort of decent recovery from an injury like that.”

Former President Donald Trump also addressed Woods’ accident during an interview with Fox News Primetime, where he called the golfer “a wonderful person.” Trump awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in a 2019 ceremony.

“He just was always great to me and I’ve always felt the same with him — I’ve always just liked him,” Trump said Tuesday, according to Fox. “We had a good chemistry and always have.”
