Suspected pipe bombs discovered at both RNC and DNC headquarters in DC

Washington, D.C. devolved into chaos on Wednesday as rioters stormed Capitol Hill in an effort to stop the confirmation of President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

According to The New York Times, at least two additional sites were also impacted, with authorities confirming explosive devices were found at the headquarters of the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee.

Buildings evacuated

Details about both shocking incidents were scarce as of this writing as an investigation remained underway. It has been confirmed, however, that a pipe bomb had been discovered at the RNC headquarters.

A committee official explained that the explosive device had been safely detonated by a bomb squad after the building was evacuated.

As for the discovery at the DNC headquarters, the details are more nebulous.

Reports show the DNC building was also evacuated, apparently after the arrival of a suspicious package. Subsequent updates indicate that the package was also confirmed to contain a pipe bomb.

There has been no official statement regarding why the locations were targeted or whether a suspect or suspects had been identified.

Multiple deaths, dozens of arrests

At the same time, rioters were seizing the Capitol Building in an apparent effort to support President Donald Trump’s ongoing challenges related to November’s election as the certification process was ongoing inside.

Many details of that alarming situation also remain unclear, but lawmakers were evacuated and police spent more than an hour restoring order to the area.

During the breach, a woman identified as U.S. Air Force veteran Ashli Babbit was reportedly shot and killed by an officer. Reports suggest she was unarmed and the shooting remains under investigation as of Thursday.

Three other individuals reportedly died during the course of the day’s tragic events — all of them as a result of what has been deemed “medical emergencies.” Additionally, law enforcement is said to have made more than 50 arrests in the area on Wednesday.

Congress ultimately reconvened and certified Biden as the winner of the presidential race. For his part, Trump released a statement condemning the violence, later promising “an orderly transition” into the next administration while vowing to continue the “fight to Make America Great Again!”
