GOP Sen. Josh Hawley says his family was terrorized by leftist rioters outside home

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) has made headlines in recent days for his vow to oppose the ratification of the Electoral College vote tally as part of ongoing allegations of widespread voter fraud in November’s election.

In response, he said this week that a group of leftist agitators showed up at his home while his family was inside.

“Antifa scumbags came to our place in DC”

While far-left mobs spent much of the summer rampaging through a number of major U.S. cities, Hawley condemned the same type of provocation by the protesters who recently arrived at his residence.

In a tweet on Monday, he wrote: “Tonight while I was in Missouri, Antifa scumbags came to our place in DC and threatened my wife and newborn daughter, who can’t travel.”

Upon arriving, he claimed that the mob “screamed threats, vandalized, and tried to pound open our door,” asserting that he will not allow his family to “be intimidated by leftwing violence.”

According to the Washington Examiner, an activist group called ShutDownDC issued a statement claiming responsibility for the demonstration.

Of course, they denied any violence or intimidation, insisting that they merely wanted to deliver a clear message to the GOP senator.

“His actions are undemocratic and unacceptable”

“We came to let Hawley know that his actions are undemocratic and unacceptable,” group spokesman Patrick Young said. “Voters decided who they wanted to be president and now Hawley is trying to silence their votes, even after Republican election officials certified the vote counts.”

For his part, Hawley confirmed he would be objecting to the certification of electoral results on Wednesday over allegations of rampant election-related fraud and irregularities.

Opponents like Young, however, say such efforts are not only unfounded but even racist. He said that Hawley’s move would lead to the disenfranchisement of largely minority voters.

“This is an attempted coup waged by silencing the voices of people of color,” he said.

In any case, Hawley made it clear that ShutDownDC’s tactics were completely unwarranted, tweeting: “Now ‘vigil’ means screaming threats through bullhorns, vandalizing property, pounding on the doors of homes and terrorizing innocent people and children.”
