Rush Limbaugh thanks listeners in final broadcast of the year: ‘I wasn’t expected to be alive today’

Conservative talk radio legend Rush Limbaugh finished his final episode of 2020 this week, Fox News reported. Despite battling terminal cancer, the 69-year-old offered his listeners a message of deep appreciation.

“My point in all of this today is gratitude,” Limbaugh told his audience during the emotional Wednesday broadcast.

He continued, “My point in all of this is to say thanks and tell everybody involved how much I love you from the bottom of a sizable and growing and still-beating heart.”

“I wasn’t expected to be alive today,” Limbaugh reminded his fans. “I wasn’t expected to make it to October, and then to November, and then to December. And yet, here I am, and today, got some problems, but I’m feeling pretty good today.”

Presidential Medal of Freedom

The conservative commentator began choking up as he remarked, “I can’t be self-absorbed about it, when that is the tendency when you are told that you’ve got a due date. You have an expiration date. A lot of people never get told that, so they don’t face life this way.”

In February, President Donald Trump acknowledge Limbaugh’s achievements before awarding him the Presidential Medal of Freedom during the State of the Union address.

“Almost every American family knows the pain when a loved one is diagnosed with a serious illness,” the president said to assembled lawmakers and other dignitaries.

“Here tonight is a special man, someone beloved by millions of Americans who just received a Stage 4 advanced cancer diagnosis,” Trump went on. As noted by Fox News, Limbaugh had made his condition public just one day earlier.

“There is nobody like him”

The president called Limbaugh “the greatest fighter and winner that you will ever meet” before having First Lady Melania Trump present the medal.

“Rush, in recognition of all that you have done for our Nation, the millions of people a day that you speak to and that you inspire, and all of the incredible work that you have done for charity, I am proud to announce tonight that you will be receiving our country’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom,” Trump told the tearful media icon.

The president offered praise for the radio host on Twitter as well, saying, “Many people do not know what a great guy & fantastic political talent the great Rush Limbaugh is. There is nobody like him.”

Limbaugh’s daily broadcast has been on the air for over three decades and, according to his website, currently boasts a weekly listenership of 27 million.
