Report: Kamala Harris-backed immigration bill passes Senate without opposition

With the media’s blessing, and despite ongoing protests from President Donald Trump, Kamala Harris has been preparing to take over the vice presidency come Jan. 20 — but in the meantime, she’s already clocking big wins for her progressive agenda.

The Democrat senator from California “scored a major legislative victory” this week, Breitbart’s John Binder reported, when a bill she co-sponsored last year passed the Senate with “no objections.”

Known as the “Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act,” the measure was first introduced last year by Harris and Utah Sen. Mike Lee, a Republican, Binder reported at the time.

Writing Thursday, Binder described the bill as a “giveaway” of green cards, saying it will provide “a constant stream of foreign workers that American professionals will be forced to compete against for white-collar jobs.” The measure increases the number of green cards that can be issued to foreign workers annually from 70,000 to 140,000, among other things.

“The green card giveaway”

Reports from Breitbart and elsewhere indicated that Indian citizens in particular stand to benefit from the “green card giveaway,” which also “eliminates the per-country numerical limitation for employment-based immigrant visas and raises it for family-based visas,” according to the Business Standard.

Those changes will likely have a significant impact on the American workforce, Binder writes.

“The green card giveaway for giant tech corporations will allow Indian nationals to effectively monopolize the United States’ green card system for at least ten years,” he argued Thursday. Binder went on:

The giveaway solidifies that employment-based visas only go to temporary foreign visa workers, mostly on H-1B visas, who have been imported to the U.S. by corporations to replace American workers, thus rewarding companies who outsource American white-collar jobs.

“Good luck with that”

Breitbart’s Neil Munro similarly castigated Republican lawmakers in an article of his own, even suggesting that President Trump veto the measure.

“They’re going to turn millions of white-collar people into blue-collar people,” one activist told Munro. “Ninety percent of the senators do not know what this bill means,” he added.

Munro warned that although “Lee’s bill may yet be quietly blocked by [Senate Majority Leader Mitch] McConnell,” a Kentucky Republican, “it can also be copied by House Democrats into the pending coronavirus spending bill,” making it hard for Trump to veto it outright.

If he doesn’t, however, the president may find himself earning the ire of his supporters.

“If this is what Trump wants to be his legacy,” U.S. Tech Workers founder Kevin Lynn told Munro, “well, good luck with that.”
