A Los Angeles-area couple’s doorbell camera captured the terrifying moment when a pair of gunmen opened fire outside their home earlier this month, Fox News reported.
Police shared footage pulled from the couple’s Ring Video Doorbell with the media in hopes of identifying the assailants, who authorities said shot at a woman and her husband as she opened the door in response to the gunmen knocking.
“Simultaneously started shooting”
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Detective Glenn Greathouse told reporters at a press conference this week that a husband and wife living in the home were both there on the evening on Dec. 21, when the gunmen approached their house around 6 p.m.
“The residents of the location were answering their Ring doorbell and assuming it was a family member,” Greathouse said, according to Fox News. “When the female resident answered the door, the two individuals pointed guns at her and simultaneously started shooting at her while she was standing in the doorway.
“Thankfully, neither one of the victims were struck by the gunfire,” Greathouse added. Still, the detectice said police “need the public’s assistance in order to identify these two individuals so that we can hold them accountable for their actions and choices to carry out this crime,” Fox noted.
Suspects still at large
Footage of the shooting shows what police described as a “Black male around 6 feet tall with a thin build,” according to Fox. The man appeared to be wearing a disposable face mask, gray sweatpants, and a multi-colored hoodie.
Also seen in the video is another man who is dressed all in black. See a clip of Greathouse’s remarks for yourself:

“He’s running a social experiment”
Crime has been on the rise in Los Angeles in recent months, with the Los Angeles Times reporting Nov. 23 that shootings were up more than 32% in the city over the same time last year.
Some fear that the problem will only get worse following the election of George Gascon as district attorney. The Democrat announced this month that he plans to end cash bail and no longer pursue sentencing enhancements, according to KABC Los Angeles.
Lawyer Samuel Dordulian is representing a number of crime victims, and he isn’t impressed by those moves.
“He’s running a social experiment that is dangerous for all of us because his whole goal is to release all these criminals out there in the street, and somehow they’re magically going to behave,” Dordulian said of Gascon, according to KABC. “And that simply isn’t going to happen.”
