Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Raphael Warnock has already faced multiple controversies in his longshot bid to replace incumbent Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler in next month’s Georgia runoff election.
This week, however, new troubling allegations surfaced in the wake of reports that law enforcement officers responded to the home of his ex-wife earlier this year.
Cops were called
Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson addressed the issue during a segment of his program on Monday.
He aired bodycam footage from police officers responding to a reported domestic disturbance in March, which appears to show Ouleye Warnock telling an officer that her ex-husband deliberately ran over her foot with his vehicle.
A subsequent police report indicated that the complainant had been able to wiggle her toes and there was no apparent bruising on her foot.
The incident reportedly stemmed from her attempt to obtain her then-estranged husband’s signature for a passport. Fox News indicated that the couple finalized their divorce in May.
Ouleye Warnock reported that a relative in West Africa had died and she wanted to take their children to the funeral.
“Wasn’t going fast”
“He’s like, ‘Ouleye, close the door. I’m leaving,'” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘Just hear me out. If your mom died, and I had the kids. Wouldn’t you want me to let them go with you to the funeral?'”
The woman continued by describing Raphael Warnock “backing the car up,” noting that he “wasn’t going fast” and she was “not bleeding” but nonetheless could not believe he would behave in such an “obviously” intentional manner.
“The door was open and I’m leaning into the car,” she said. “How can you drive the car when I’m leaning into it?”
At one point in the video, she brought up her husband’s political ambitions, asserting that he is “running for United States Senate, and all he cares about right now is his reputation.”
For his part, the Democratic candidate denied any wrongdoing, explaining: “I don’t want to get into a shoving match with her. So I go back around, get back in the car, and I slowly start to move, like I’m gonna move forward. Then she claims I ran over her foot.”
