When Democrat vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris was asked during a 60 Minutes interview that aired on Sunday about her status as the Senate’s most liberal member, she simply fell apart, according to the Washington Examiner.
“You’re very different in the policies that you’ve supported in the past,” CBS News host Norah O’Donnell said to Harris. “You’re considered the most liberal United States senator.”
Harris giggled before giving a non-answer: “I — somebody said that, and it actually was Mike Pence on the debate stage.”
“Yeah. Well, actually, the nonpartisan GovTrack has rated you as the most liberal senator,” O’Donnell countered, as the Examiner reported. “You supported the Green New Deal; you supported ‘Medicare for all’; you’ve supported legalizing marijuana. Joe Biden doesn’t support those things.”
Harris’ “honest” perspective
Harris, for her part, denied that she would “represent a socialist or progressive perspective” if elected.
“No. No,” she said, laughing, according to the Examiner. “What I will do, and I promise you this, and this is what Joe wants me to do, this was part of our deal, I will always share with him my lived experience as it relates to any issue that we confront.
“And I promised Joe that I will give him that perspective and always be honest with him,” Harris added during her 60 Minutes interview.
She explained: “It is the perspective of — of a woman who grew up a Black child in America, who was also a prosecutor, who also has a mother who arrived here at the age of 19 from India. Who also, you know, likes hip-hop.”
The bottom line
As much as she may want to deny it, the fact is, Harris’ Senate voting record in 2019 was to the left of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who primary voters rejected precisely because of his perceived radical views.
Indeed, Harris has supported the Green New Deal, unrestricted abortion up to birth, and open borders — not to mention discussions about police defunding.
It’s all bad news for conservatives and supporters of the incumbent president, many of whom believe Joe Biden is a bait-and-switch candidate who would be swiftly replaced by his more progressive running mate.
“Pelosi’s plan: Remove Biden if Elected and Install Kamala,” a recent video from Donald Trump’s campaign alleged, according to the Sacramento Bee. “Pelosi’s plan: Help Kamala Remove Biden from office.”
