Amy Coney Barrett was sworn-in as an associate justice on the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday, becoming the fifth woman ever to be confirmed to the prestigious position.
It was an accomplishment the Girl Scouts of the USA wanted to celebrate — but after posting a tweet congratulating the new justice, the group swiftly faced pushback from many on the left. The backlash prompted the organization to delete its original tweet — but now, according to The Daily Wire, they’re taking some serious flak for the reversal.
Tweeted and deleted
The tweet from the Girl Scouts appeared innocent enough. According to the Daily Wire, it read plainly: “Congratulations Amy Coney Barrett on becoming the fifth woman appointed to the Supreme Court since its inception in 1789.”
Attached was an image that featured pictures of the five women justices, Sandra Day O’Connor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagen, and now, Amy Coney Barrett.
It was apparently too much for many on the left, however, and it didn’t take long for the Girl Scouts to bow to the leftist mob.
According to the Daily Caller, the organization said they didn’t want to make a “political or partisan statement.”
“Girl Scouts of the USA is a non-political, nonpartisan organization. We are neither red nor blue, but Girl Scout GREEN. We are here to lift up girls and women,” the group said, as the Daily Caller reported.
“Pathetic” and “sad”
Supporters of Barrett were, predictably, outraged at the development. According to the Daily Caller, former Fox News host and ex-NBC contributor Megyn Kelly refused to accept the group’s “pathetic” excuse, tweeting: “It’s not ‘partisan’ to generically congratulate the 5th woman ever to join the High Court. It’s patriotic.”

Joining Kelly in the sharp critique of the Girl Scouts was the Independent Women’s Forum, which wrote in a thread of tweets: “Of course the [Girl Scouts] caved to the mob and deleted this tweet congratulating Amy Coney Barrett. SAD.”
In a similar vein, National Review‘s Erin Hawley pointed out that the Girl Scouts have posted decidedly partisan and political tweets from in the past that they didn’t feel compelled to delete.
“Sadly, the message to our young girls is clear: Your success matters only if you subscribe to a certain type of progressive feminism,” Hawley wrote Thursday.
