‘Playing politics with people’s lives’: McEnany slams Biden’s statements about COVID-19 vaccine

The Trump administration’s ongoing characterization of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden as a present danger to the United States continued this week with remarks from White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

She reacted to recent statements from the former vice president regarding a potential coronavirus vaccine by accusing him and others in the party of “playing politics with people’s lives,” as reported by Fox News.

“Sowing doubt”

McEnany’s assertion came on Tuesday morning during an appearance on Fox & Friends.

In her view, Democrats are “sowing doubt” about the effectiveness and safety of a vaccine that President Donald Trump has optimistically predicted could be available within weeks. She went on to say that it is “very, very dangerous” for Biden to question the process.

Biden was asked during a recent campaign stop in Pennsylvania whether he would accept a COVID-19 vaccine if the Trump administration announced its approval before Election Day.

He said he “would want to see what the scientists said” and urged “full transparency” on the part of those involved in the vaccine’s development.

“One of the problems is the way [Trump is] playing with politics,” Biden said. “He’s said so many things that aren’t true I’m worried if we do have a really good vaccine people will be reluctant to take it and so he’s undermining public confidence, but pray to God we have it.”

“Listen to the scientists”

Biden said that he would sacrifice his White House bid if a viable vaccine could be available immediately, asserting that America needs one “as quick as we can get it” but must “listen to the scientists.”

His running mate, U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), has also expressed skepticism regarding the validity of Trump’s word on vaccines.

“I will say that I would not trust Donald Trump and it would have to be a credible source of information that talks about the efficacy and the reliability of whatever he’s talking about,” she said, according to the New York Post. “I will not take his word for it. From the beginning of this pandemic, he has called it a hoax, has muzzled the public health experts. He has minimized the seriousness of it.”

It all adds up to a presidential platform McEnany believes could exacerbate an ongoing public health crisis.

Whether a vaccine is available before November or not, this is sure to be a major issue for voters to consider when casting a ballot this year.
