House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) just accused President Donald Trump of causing the deaths of Americans.
According to Breitbart, Pelosi told MSNBC’s Joy Reid on Thursday that the president’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in deaths that could have been avoided.
“His delay, his denial, his distortion caused deaths, caused deaths,” Pelosi insisted, according to Breitbart.
“Could we have saved all of these people? Maybe not,” she said. “But we could have saved many.”
“Contempt by the president”
According to Breitbart, Pelosi declared Thursday that she’s “never been able to make sense of the president of the United States.”
“I know there is a method to his madness — and I use that word very specifically, madness. But what we’ve learned in the last few days is nothing new,” she said, referencing a series of recorded conversations between Trump and reporter Bob Woodward. “We know that he made light of the virus, called it a hoax, and was going to go away magically or by miracle,” Pelosi added before asserting that Trump cost American lives with his alleged “delay” and “denial.”
“And there are scientific measures of how many we could have saved,” she said, according to Breitbart. “But let me use one word to describe everything we learned in the last 24 to 48 hours: contempt. Contempt by the president of the United States for the lives of the American people.”
The House speaker also said Trump had contempt “for science that was telling us what we needed to do and still continues to tell us what to do” and contempt “for his own supporters, by having them packed into venues again and again, since he even knew it was airborne. Again, just contemptible,” she said.
“And he still won’t allocate the resources or the approval for what we have in the HEROES Act to do that,” she added, ignoring that it’s been Democrats who have blocked much-needed coronavirus relief measures from moving forward.
“Come join us”
Of course, Pelosi didn’t bring up that, in February, she called on her own constituents to visit San Francisco’s Chinatown, promising that it was “safe.”
“We want to be careful about how we deal with it, but we do want to say to people ‘Come to Chinatown, here we are — we’re, again, careful, safe — and come join us,'” the House speaker said, according to Fox News.
Pelosi also condemned President Trump’s ban on travel from areas of the world most affected by COVID-19 before later complaining that it wasn’t extensive enough.
