Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) has taken plenty of flak for her capricious and tyrannical handling of the coronavirus, but how bad is she really?
Matthew Walther, a correspondent for The Week who hails from the Great Lakes State contends that Whitmer is “the most incompetent” politician in America.
“Most incompetent public servant”
For those who follow Walther, he is an acerbic critic, and he doesn’t pull any punches in taking — as Fox News’ Tucker Carlson described her — Michigan’s “ghoul” of a governor to task.
In a new column, he calls out Whitmer as America’s “most incompetent public servant” in the nation for “maximizing the death toll by the only surefire means known to science.”
Donning the mantle of “science” herself (as she — along with many other petty tyrants — is quite fond of doing), Whitmer recently vetoed a bipartisan bill that would have required nursing home patients with the coronavirus to be housed in separate facilities — a move that Walther calls an “act of pure spite” that will come with a human cost.
“It is impossible to mount a scientific justification for Whitmer’s veto. It was an act of pure spite, a move that signaled nothing save her unlimited contempt for the Republican-controlled state legislature. Her feeble defense — that not placing virus patients in nursing homes where their chances of infecting their fellow occupants are all but guaranteed would have violated their medical rights and privacy rights — is risible on its face,” Walther argues.
It’s a well-deserved takedown of a truly loathsome politician. Read the whole piece here.
The COVID tyrants
To be sure, Whitmer has plenty of competition for the title of worst politician in the form of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), on whose watch New York City has fallen into a death spiral, leaving the governor literally begging wealthy residents to return, as the New York Post reports.
Cuomo also caused thousands of nursing home residents to die with his own thoughtless policy requiring nursing facilities to accept patients known to have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Although he has refused to take responsibility for deaths in his state, even Cuomo has changed course on nursing homes, as Walther points out — unlike Whitmer, who seems to be taking petty arrogance and sociopathic cruelty to a level all her own.
“Whitmer is everything critics accuse President Trump of being: venal, narcissistic, hypocritical, obtuse, willfully ignorant, and totally indifferent to human life,” Walther writes.
New Yorkers may disagree with Walther’s view that Whitmer is the absolute worst politician in America, but he certainly makes a strong case that she’s up there.
