New poll shows Trump leading nationally and among critical swing states

While many in the media endlessly cite polls that show presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden with an all-but-insurmountable lead over President Donald Trump, one recent poll tells a much different story.

As Breitbart reported, the president has not only erased his gap with Biden, but is now leading the former vice president in a number of important battleground states.

Multiple factors favor Trump

Respondents to the poll, which was conducted last month for the U.K. Sunday Express by the Democracy Institute, were also more likely to favor Trump than Biden on several of the most important factors voters tend to consider when choosing a presidential candidate.

Nationally, the poll results gave Trump a slim 48% to 46% lead over Biden. Perhaps more importantly, however, is the five-point average lead he has among a combined six crucial swing states.

Pollsters predicted that if the trend plays out on Election Day, Trump would be re-elected with an electoral victory of 309-229 over Biden.

Trump’s swing-state lead is arguably the most significant aspect of the poll and includes Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — a series of wins that would put him on track to win the electoral race.

The results also included feedback regarding the nation’s economy that could spell bad news for Biden.

Biden voters lack enthusiasm

Nearly one-third of voters polled said the economy is the number one issue. About two-thirds believe it will bounce back upon the end of the current public health crisis.

By a margin of 57% to 43%, respondents said they believed Trump is better suited to manage the economic impact and post-pandemic recovery.

Another potential concern for the Biden campaign is an apparent enthusiasm gap.

The new Democracy Institute poll is the latest to show GOP voters are more excited about supporting Trump than Democrats are about their candidate. Nearly twice as many Trump voters are enthusiastic than Biden voters — 79% to 41%.

To be sure, Trump’s lead in this poll is an outlier, as the RealClearPolitics average still shows Biden with a solid seven-point lead. Of course, with nearly three months left until Election Day, it might indicate the type of movement he would need to secure a second term.
