Kanye West continues bid to appear on presidential ballots in apparent effort to damage Biden campaign

Rapper-turned-presidential hopeful Kanye West has filled out paperwork for his name to appear on the ballot in eight states, as reported by Fox News. He is also reportedly encouraging supporters to stage a write-in campaign in those states where he will not be listed.

Of course, a win on Election Day is beyond a longshot — but some pundits believe it could nevertheless cause headaches for the campaign of presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden and West seems to acknowledge that is part of his goal.

“I just told you”

Republicans appear to recognize this possibility, as The New York Times reported. GOP operatives are reportedly working on behalf of West’s campaign to show up as an option in a handful of other states.

Furthermore, Vice reported that a Wisconsin attorney who worked for the Trump campaign was seen dropping off signatures at an election office.

As for West, however, he does not seem to mind the potential political fallout of his decision to stage a last-minute bid.

“I’m not denying it,” he told a Forbes magazine reporter regarding whether he was comfortable with potentially hurting Biden’s campaign. “I just told you.”

West launched his campaign with a tweet on Independence Day in which he asserted that voters “must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future.”

“Following the word of the Bible”

His third-party candidacy was the result of Trump occupying the incumbent position within the Republican Party, he said. Despite running under the “Birthday Party” banner, he said he “would run as a Republican if Trump wasn’t there.”

Among his campaign platform items is a pledge to defund Planned Parenthood, insisting that he is anti-abortion because he is “following the word of the Bible.”

While West has had plenty of kind words and praise for the president, he has not spared criticism of the former vice president.

“This man, Joe Biden, said if you don’t vote for me then you are not Black” West said in reference to the candidate’s comments in May. “Well, act like we didn’t hear that?”

Whether it is gaffes and scandals from within his own campaign or the threat a West candidacy might pose, it appears Biden’s path to the White House might not be as inevitable as some pundits would like to believe.
