CNN poll shows Biden’s lead in national polls and battleground states is collapsing

For months, Democrats have touted polls showing Joe Biden taking a commanding lead over President Trump, but the tide is rapidly turning.

According to a new CNN poll, Joe Biden and Donald Trump are in a dead heat with less than four months to go until election day. This is a hard pill to swallow for CNN, which produced poll after poll this summer showing Biden holding double-digit leads.

The race tightens up

The poll, one of the first major polls to be released since Biden announced Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) will be joining the ticket, found that Biden holds a just four-point lead over Trump if the election were to be held today — barely larger than the poll’s 3.7 percent margin of error.

Even more importantly, Trump has closed the gap in battleground states, where Biden leads Trump by only one point.

Trump supporters have long decried the polls showing seemingly insurmountable leads for Biden as inaccurate, and it appears that either the criticisms were correct, or there has been a massive shift in the public’s opinion of Trump.

Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said in a recent interview, “the pollsters got it wrong in 2016 from July through November of 2016. There were 226 national public polls. Clinton led in 213 of the 226.”

“It wasn’t just the national polls that got it wrong,” he continued. “The state polls got it wrong, too: 120 in state polls in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, the president led in 1 of 120.”

Saphier explained that the campaign’s internal polls were accurate in 2016, and that the campaign places far more weight on the internal polls than polls run by mainstream media outlets.

Kamala Harris — catastrophic miscalculation?

This CNN poll isn’t the only bad news the Biden campaign got this week. According to a Rasmussen Reports survey released on Friday, a full one-third of Black voters are now less likely to vote for the Democrat ticket now that Harris has joined as Biden’s running mate.

Choosing Harris was a strategic move to wrap up the Black vote, but it appears that some Black voters aren’t entirely on board with the Jamaican-Indian VP candidate.

Even more telling is the fact that just 37 percent of Black voters surveyed by Rasmussen voiced their approval of Harris — only one point higher than those that say they approve of Donald Trump.

Donald Trump has taken action to provide COVID-19 relief, crack down on violent crime, and push back against China. Joe Biden is still hiding in his basement. As the election approaches, the cracks are showing in the Biden campaign’s strategy.
