Biden miscounts his grandchildren during Cardi B interview

Presidential candidate Joe Biden has suffered another embarrassing mental freeze, just days before he is set to accept the nomination of the Democratic Party.

The former vice president apparently forgot how many grandchildren he has, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

Biden gets number of grandchildren wrong

Speculation over Biden’s mental state has long shadowed his campaign, and the 77-year-old Democrat is continuing to provide reasons to doubt that he will last a full term. Biden has seven legal grandchildren, but he left one or two of them out in a recent interview with rap star Cardi B.

“I’ve got four kids, five grandchildren—c’mon, I’m an expert,” Biden said.

Biden’s late son Beau, who died of brain cancer, had two children, and his other son Hunter had three children with his first wife. Hunter also had a baby with his second wife Melissa this year, and he fathered an illegitimate son with a former stripper in 2018.

It’s quite possible that Biden is leaving out the latter, but even in that case, the number would be six, not five.

Nothing must have seemed out of place to the former veep, though, when five of his grandchildren showed up on Monday evening at the Democratic National Convention to recite the pledge of allegiance.

Two Bidens

Biden’s slip-up makes for quite the contrast with the Joe Biden that Democrats portrayed at the convention, as allies delivered one breathless tribute after another painting a man of singular character and competence — an experienced figure who has what it takes to unite a deeply divided nation.

“I know Joe. He is a profoundly decent man guided by faith. He was a terrific vice-president. He knows what it takes to rescue an economy, beat back a pandemic and lead our country. And he listens. He will tell the truth and trust science,” former first lady Michelle Obama fawned.

But remove the studio finish, and Biden appears a much less impressive figure indeed.

While this mistake might be forgiven, it’s not the first time Biden has forgotten how many grandkids he has, and it certainly isn’t his first gaffe. “I have five grandchildren. Every single day, I either talk to them or we text,” he told Jimmy Fallon earlier this year.

Frankly, is this man ready to lead the free world?
