Barr says there will be a ‘development’ in Durham investigation on Friday

Attorney General William Barr announced on Thursday that there will be a “development” in U.S. Attorney John Durham’s probe into the origins of the Russia collusion investigation on Friday.

Very little about the sweeping investigation has been revealed to this point, but Barr confirmed that the American people will receive an update on Friday.

It’s about time

Barr revealed in a Thursday evening interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity that the announcement is not likely to be an “earth-shattering development,” but that it will indicate that “things are moving along at the proper pace, as dictated by the facts in this investigation.”

Barr denied that the investigation is being conducted “on the election schedule,” but indicated that major findings will be revealed prior to voting as the timeline of the probe dictates.

Durham’s probe examining the origins of what some call the “Russiagate” or “Obamagate” controversies was launched more than a year ago, but the Justice Department has kept findings tightly under wraps throughout the entire process.

As the election approaches, Trump supporters are agitating for real results. However, Democrats and the mainstream media are doing everything in their power to prevent Durham from revealing his findings before election day, claiming that Barr is using the Justice Department as a tool for Trump.

Barr fired back: “I’ve said there are going to be developments, significant developments before the election, but we are not doing this on the election schedule. We are aware of the election, we are not going to do anything inappropriate before the election, but we are not being dictated to by this schedule, what’s dictating the timing of this are developments in the case and there will be developments.

“The way out of the politicization and corruption of the justice system where it’s used as a political weapon by one party against another is not to deliver tit-for-tat, it’s not to use the tactics of the other side, it’s to uphold the rule of law, use the right standard, and that’s what I’m trying to do,” Barr explained.

Trump ups the ante

Despite Barr’s attempts to distance himself from Trump’s influence in this matter, Trump is increasing pressure on Barr to deliver substantive action based on the Durham report.

In a Thursday morning interview with Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo, Trump said he hopes Barr and Durham won’t be “politically correct” about the findings of the probe. “Bill Barr and Durham have a chance to be — Bill Barr is great most of the time, but if he wants to be politically correct, he’ll be just another guy,” Trump warned.

Barr appeared to affirm that criminal indictments from the investigation are expected. “If people crossed the line, if people involved in that activity violated criminal law, they will be charged,” Barr told Hannity.

“And John Durham is an independent man, highly experienced, and his investigation is pursuing apace. There was some delay because of COVID, but I’m satisfied with the progress and I’ve said there are going to be developments, significant developments, before the election.”
