While the World Health Organization (WHO) claims that its mission is “to lead partners in global health responses,” the evidence is mounting that it actually engaged in a cover-up with respect to COVID-19.
What’s more, that cover-up kept countries from responding properly to the pandemic, and some are demanding China and the WHO face consequences for it. One of them is Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL).
“The WHO failed”
“The mission of the WHO is to get public health information to the world so every country can make the best decisions to keep their citizens safe,” Scott said in a statement on Tuesday.
“When it comes to Coronavirus, the WHO failed,” Scott continued. “They need to be held accountable for their role in promoting misinformation and helping Communist China cover up a global pandemic.”
“We know Communist China is lying about how many cases and deaths they have, what they knew and when they knew it – and the WHO never bothered to investigate further,” he complained, adding, “Their inaction cost lives.”
Examples of the WHO’s pro-China bias can be seen in statements from Dr. Bruce Aylward, one of the leaders of the WHO-China Joint Mission. During a February press conference, Aylward said, “If I had COVID-19, I’d want to be treated in China.”
“They’ve done this at scale, they know what they’re doing,” he continued. “They’re really, really good at it, and they’re really keen to help.”
China owns the WHO
Aylward recently made headlines for hanging up on a Taiwanese reporter after she asked about her country’s exclusion from the WHO.
Further, the WHO actually repeated false claims that China made about the disease. On January 14, the organization tweeted, “Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China.”
In fact, a report from the South China Morning Post revealed that cases of COVID-19 were showing up as early at November, with evidence of human-to-human transmission.
What’s more, the WHO apparently put a high priority on trying to prevent China from being stigmatized by the illness.
A March 2 tweet from the organization read, “DON’T – attach locations or ethnicity to the disease, this is not a ‘Wuhan Virus,’ ‘Chinese Virus’ or ‘Asian Virus,'” it insisted. “The official name for the disease was deliberately chosen to avoid stigmatization.”
