Trump says ‘Shifty Schiff’ leaked details of briefing on Russian election meddling

President Donald Trump is once again publicly accusing Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) of secretly providing sensitive information to the media.

The allegations came in the wake of a report in the New York Times stating that “five people familiar” with a briefing provided to the House Intelligence Committee on Feb. 17 said evidence was presented to support the proposition that the Russian government has been working to help Trump win re-election.

Another leak

“Just another Shifty Schiff leak,” the president tweeted on Saturday night. “Isn’t there a law about this stuff?”  he asked, implying that the congressman should face legal consequences over the alleged conduct.

The accusation that Schiff is a leaker isn’t new. Trump voiced similar suspicions during an interview with the Wall Street Journal in 2018.

“All I see of these Democrats, like Adam Schiff — it’s all he does, he’ll have a meeting, and then he’ll leave, and he’ll call up the meeting, and then I’ll have a meeting and then he’ll leave,” the president said.

“He left meetings where people are being interviewed, and then all of a sudden they say a story about what’s going on inside the meetings,” Trump declared.

Not the only one

President Trump is not the only one who has pointed fingers at Schiff when it comes to leaks of key information. His son, Donald Trump Jr., did the same during a Fox News interview in January of 2019, according to the Daily Caller.

“I came out of testimony 8:00 at night,” Trump said of his 2017 appearance before a closed-door session of the House Intelligence Committee. “And CNN is running quotes from noon on about my testimony,” he recalled. “You know, in the House Intelligence Committee, I mean, that has to say something about what is going on and who they are.”

“Since he’s never met a camera he didn’t love, I would bet a lot of money that it was him,” Trump Jr. said of Schiff, who is the chairman of the Intel Committee.

History of dishonesty

Schiff’s past actions haven’t exactly bolstered his reputation for honesty and fair dealing, either. While appearing on an segment of MSNBC’s Morning Joe last September, he claimed to have had no prior contact with the individual who filled a whistlerblower compaint following Trump’s July 25 telephone call with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, a conversation that eventually led to the entire impeachment sham.

However, the New York Times later contradicted Schiff’s assertion, with the paper tweeting, “The whistle-blower gave an early account of allegations against President Trump to a House aide who outlined it to Rep. Adam Schiff, who is now leading the impeachment inquiry.”

With the congressman’s history of underhanded conduct concerning all things Trump, the president is right to suspect that Schiff has learned nothing from his party’s disastrous, failed coup attempt and will continue trying to undermine him at every turn.
