Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich diagnosed Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), lead House manager in the impeachment trial, as “deranged” and a “pathological liar” who is less credible than the debunked and discredited Steele dossier.
Gingrich even went a step further, suggesting that Schiff should be removed from his seat on the House Intelligence Committee.
“Adam Schiff is a compulsive, uncontrollable liar”
Gingrich’s comments came during an appearance Thursday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”
It didn’t take long before Schiff came up. Ingraham pointed out how, yet again, Schiff had manufactured during the impeachment trial a supposed conversation involving Trump, this time with Russian President Vladimir Putin, that had no basis in reality.
Gingrich said, “Schiff personally is obviously a person who’s a deranged human being. This is about Schiff. Schiff is a guy who’s a pathological liar. He seems to have no ability to distinguish between truth and falsehood. He lied for two and a half years about the Russian collusion, it all disintegrated. He looked like a fool. He learned nothing. He came back and lied again and again.”
“And you’re right — here we are at the end of this cycle and he goes back and decides to lie again,” he continued. “I mean, I think somehow people have got to decide that Adam Schiff is a compulsive, uncontrollable liar, and should be dealt with that way.”
“Listen, a healthy House would strip him of the Intelligence Committee,” Gingrich asserted. “I mean, how can you ever expect the president and CIA and others to share secrets with a person who is profoundly publicly dishonest? I think this is a Schiff problem, that we’ve learned over the last three months that this guy literally is a pathological liar.”
Steele dossier is “more believable” than Schiff
The discussion moved on to the over-the-top reaction of some in the media to President Trump’s likely impending acquittal, but Gingrich wasn’t quite done with Schiff.
After Ingraham referenced a laughable attempt by House manager Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) to excuse the Democrats’ use of the anti-Trump Steele dossier as not being improper solicitation of foreign interference in an election because it was “purchased,” Gingrich moved in for a devastating final blow.
The dossier, which served as the basis for an FBI investigation, FISA warrants to spy on Trump’s campaign, and the years-long special counsel probe, has been thoroughly discredited via a recent inspector general’s report.
“The difference between the Steele dossier and Adam Schiff is the Steele dossier was more believable,” the former speaker said. “That’s the real difference here, is nothing Schiff does, in a factual world, would be taken seriously.”
