The House’s late 2019 impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump was sparked by a complaint filed in August by a so-called “whistleblower” who has yet to be officially named but whom some reports have identified as a former CIA analyst who has ties to Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).
Now, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) says that supposed whistleblower could soon find himself testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee so Republicans can “get to the bottom” of the charade and understand “how all this crap started,” the Washington Examiner reports.
“The day of reckoning is coming”
Sen. Graham’s remarks about the whistleblower came near the end of an interview on Sunday Morning Futures this weekend with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, where the senator spoke about “what’s next” following an expected Senate vote on Wednesday to acquit President Trump of the articles of impeachment put forward by House Democrats. Graham, for his part, vowed that there will soon be a “day of reckoning.”
The senator revealed a three-pronged plan from Senate Republicans that will be launched in the coming weeks. The strategy, he says, includes the Senate Foreign Relations Committee looking closely at the allegations of corruption in Ukraine involving former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
Meanwhile, Graham’s own Senate Judiciary Committee will be delving into alleged misuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) by the FBI to obtain warrants to spy on President Trump’s 2016 campaign. As for the so-called whistleblower, he will be subpoenaed to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee, led by Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), Graham told Bartiromo.
“Why is this important? I want to find out how all this crap started,” Graham said, according to the Examiner.
“If the shoe were on the other foot…”
“If the whistleblower is a former employee, [an] associate of Joe Biden, I think that would be important,” Graham explained. “If the whistleblower was working with people on Schiff’s staff [who] wanted to take Trump down a year and a half ago, I think that would be important. If the Schiff staff people helped write the complaint, that would be important.”
He went on to say Republicans want to “make sure this never happens again.”
“I guaran-damn-tee you…if the shoe were on the other foot, Democrats would be eating us alive if Republicans had done any of these things,” Graham insisted. Take a look at his full interview with Bartiromo, courtesy of Fox News:
Hopefully, Graham wasn’t simply making empty promises to Bartiromo and her viewers, because Americans want him to follow through on investigating the Bidens, FISA warrant abuse, and, of course, the so-called whistleblower.
As Graham himself said, there needs to be a “day of reckoning” for those involved in the concerted and coordinated efforts to spy upon, undermine, and ultimately remove from office a duly elected president of the United States. It’s time for accountability in Washington.
