Trump: US has targeted 52 sites to hit should Iran pursue revenge

The United States killed Iranian terror leader Qasem Soleimani in an airstrike last week and now Iran is promising retribution.

According to President Trump, that’s a bad idea. He just notified the nation that he has made the decision that Iran will face swift and serious consequences if they seek revenge for Soleimani’s killing. 

“Let this serve as a warning”

“Iran is talking very boldly about targeting certain USA assets as revenge for our ridding the world of their terrorist leader who had just killed an American, & badly wounded many others, not to mention all of the people he had killed over his lifetime, including recently hundreds of Iranian protesters,” Trump tweeted on Saturday night.

“He was already attacking our Embassy, and preparing for additional hits in other locations. Iran has been nothing but problems for many years,” the president continued.

“Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats!” he concluded.

Bold words from Iran

That warning came after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani promised revenge to Soleimani’s daughter on national television.

“Mr. Rouhani,” she began, “when the bloods of my father’s friends were shed, my father would get their revenge. Now who is going to avenge my father’s blood?”

“Everyone will get revenge for the martyr’s blood,” Rouhani responded. “Don’t worry about that.”

Earlier, Rouhani had also tweeted, “The great nation of Iran will take revenge for this heinous crime.” He went on to pledge that “the path of resistance to U.S. excesses will continue.”

Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that “harsh retaliation is waiting for the criminals whose filthy hands spilled his blood.”

Perhaps the most ominous words came from Majid Takht Ravanchi, Iran’s ambassador to the UN. Ravanchi told CNN, “The U.S. has already started a war against Iran, not just an economic war but something beyond that by assassinating one of our top generals.”

Meanwhile, a red flag was hoisted over the Jamkaran Mosque in the city of Qom on Saturday. Some observers have interpreted this as a call for revenge.
