Judge Jeanine Pirro said Saturday that “the world should be thankful” for President Donald Trump after he ordered an airstrike in Iraq that killed top Iranian military official Qassem Soleimani.
In her opening monologue on the latest episode of Fox News’ Justice with Judge Jeanine, Pirro thanked the president before asserting that “the killing of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Quds Force leader Qassem Soleimani needed to happen — and President Donald Trump was the man to do it.”
Trump’s “red line”
The Pentagon confirmed that Trump ordered the airstrike that killed Soleimani, according to Marketwatch, and the president also tweeted about the strike. According to The Washington Post, Iran has vowed “severe revenge” for the killing of its top military leader, whom Pirro said has been responsible for over 600 U.S. troop deaths and “thousands of others whose blood and limbs were spilled and left on the sands of the Middle East.”
Pirro also said Saturday that Trump has shown “tremendous restraint” with Iran and that he has kept his word about when he would retaliate against its many provocations.
“We now have a president who negotiates from strength, not from weakness. A man who has exhibited tremendous restraint while constantly being provoked by Iran,” Pirro said, according to Fox. “His red line was the killing of an American. And true to his word, it was only then that he responded.”
The drone strike came after a civilian contractor was killed in a rocket attack in the Kirkuk area of northern Iraq on Dec. 27, according to Reuters. It also followed an attack on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad just days later.
“The president did not risk a single life in his effort to eliminate this sadistic beast who, according to all reports as well as his history, was a clear and present danger to America,” Pirro said Saturday.
Protecting America from harm is what motivates Trump, Pirro added, pointing out that Trump took “quick” and “strategic” action to strike Iran. “Whether they’ll admit it or not, all Americans should be thankful. Our allies should be thankful. Indeed, the world should be thankful for the removal of the world’s most dangerous terrorist,” she declared.
“No more threats!”
Those on the left have criticized Trump’s action, with The New York Times saying he chose the “most extreme measure” and pointing out that former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush both passed on taking out Soleimani even though he killed many Americans.
Trump has since warned Iran not to retaliate against the drone strike and has said that retaliation would lead to further strikes on other targets.
On Saturday, he tweeted that 52 targets would be hit in Iran if any retaliation occurred — one for each of the Americans held hostage by Iran for 444 days in 1979 and 1980.
“The USA wants no more threats!” Trump wrote.
