It’s time for Democrats to admit that the impeachment sham is finally over, Fox News host Sean Hannity said Thursday.
Hannity didn’t hide his relief that the “Schumer Schiff sham show” may finally end soon as reports surfaced that Republicans are putting together the votes to block witnesses in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate. If successful, Republican senators can move swiftly to acquitting Trump.
“Let me sum it up for you one more time. This thing is over. It’s finished. Everything else will be a mere formality,” Hannity said, according to Fox. “Now we know how this will end. The president will be acquitted. And thankfully, in two hundred and seventy-nine days, we will have an election in this country.”
Hannity: Impeachment is over
Democrats spent the last week making a final, desperate push to hear from more witnesses in the Senate, accusing Republicans of treason for wanting to end the trial and likening Trump to a dictator who must be held accountable. But the effort seemed to falter by Thursday night after a series of Republican senators lined up behind voting against further witnesses, setting the GOP up for an acquittal vote soon, Fox noted.
Hannity, for his part, said that it was time to move on from the “pointless charade” of impeachment that has consumed the country since September, echoing the president, who tweeted Wednesday that it was “game over” after a video resurfaced of John Bolton praising Trump’s infamous phone call with Ukraine as “warm and cordial.” Democrats had hoped that an 11th-hour leak of Bolton’s upcoming book, which mentioned a tie between aid to Ukraine and Trump’s desire to investigate Joe Biden, would help their push for testimony from him and other witnesses.
Although Hannity was confident that Trump had won this battle, the Fox host then sent a personal message to Mitt Romney (R-UT) to set aside his personal animus toward Trump and, for the Constitution’s sake, vote to acquit Trump. Romney and Susan Collins (R-ME) have both said they will vote for more witnesses, but that will likely make little difference after Lisa Murkowski (R-AL) announced Friday that she will vote against them; Democrats need four defections.
“Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything,” Murkowski said, according to Fox. “It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed.”
“Complete, total fiction”
Hannity went on to say Thursday that Democrats begging for witnesses cannot be trusted, since they’re being led by a “congenital liar” and a “sociopath,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA). The Fox News host recounted how Schiff repeatedly lied about Russia collusion, FBI spying on the Trump campaign, and important aspects of the Ukraine drama, including his office’s contacts with the so-called “whistleblower” whose complaint sparked the House’s impeachment inquiry last fall, RealClearPolitics noted.
Schiff again denied that he had any contact with the whistleblower during Trump’s impeachment trial this week. He had initially denied that there was any contact, although there was, then admitted it — earning him “four Pinocchios” from even the anti-Trump Washington Post, Hannity noted Thursday.
“[Schiff] first said…’I should have been more clear. Yeah. There was contact with my office and the whistleblower.’ Now he’s saying it didn’t happen,” Hannity lamented. “A complete, total fiction when even the liberal Washington Post will give a Democrat four Pinocchios because he’s lying.”
Impeachment circus shutting down?
The impeachment saga was sparked when the anonymous whistleblower, who still remains in the shadows, accused Trump of abusing his power to seek an investigation by Ukraine into Joe Biden. Led by Schiff, Democrats worked with the mainstream media to oust Trump from power with a partisan impeachment that never commanded the support of the Republican Party or more than a slim majority of Americans voters.
It looks like that effort, like the Russia collusion hoax, is finally falling apart just months before Trump’s re-election. Hannity framed the 2020 election as a choice between a president with a proven track record for success and Democrats “accomplishing nothing” and obsessed with “never-ending conspiracy theories, hoaxes, lies, [and] witch hunts.”
“I guess they think we, the American people, are stupid. They clearly don’t like the way we vote,” Hannity said. “They seem to hate our way of life. They seem to hate our values. They seem to hate our choice for president.”
After Friday’s vote on witnesses, the GOP is warning that the trial, for procedural reasons, could drag into next week, Politico reported. But as Hannity said, it’s all formalities at this point — soon this nonsense will be over with, and the country can move on.
