Poll: Don Jr., Ivanka Trump among top GOP picks for 2024 nomination

Some Republicans are so sure that President Donald Trump will win a second term in the White House this November that they are already looking well past 2020. What may be surprising to many, however, are the names of those currently topping the list of prospective candidates to succeed him.

According to a new poll, two of President Trump’s own children — Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. — are among the favorites to secure the Republican nomination in 2024, Breitbart reports.

Potential political dynasty

The poll was conducted by Axios/SurveyMonkey, and it found Ivanka and Don Jr. to be among the top four choices for the Republican presidential nod in 2024. There they are joined by Vice President Mike Pence and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.

“A full 40 percent of Republicans today would vote for Vice President Mike Pence as Commander-in-Chief,” the survey declared. “Nearly three in 10 (29 percent) would be keen on Trump’s son, Donald Trump, Jr. Just over one quarter (26 percent) would cast a vote for former U.N. Ambassador, Nikki Haley.”

Ivanka Trump took fourth place in the poll, with 16% support.

The survey was conducted online between Dec. 14 and Dec. 17. 1,854 adults were selected using the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey “to reflect the demographic composition of the United States.”

Should these early findings be taken as especially relevant? Their accuracy is probably not very reliable at this point, as there are simply too many variables involved here, but it does give some idea about the popularity of four prominent figures — Pence, Haley, Ivanka, and Don Jr. — at this stage in the game.

Popularity explained

Let’s put Pence and Haley off to the side and consider why Ivanka and Don Jr. may have made the top four. Don Jr.’s appearance near the top of the list is probably attributable to the fact that he has emerged as a leading voice among conservatives and a vocal defender of his father’s adminstration.

He has accomplished this largely via social media platforms on which he regularly speaks up in support of White House policies and attacks the hypocrisy of the left. He also authored a book, Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us, which quickly topped the New York Times non-fiction Best Sellers list.

Meanwhile, Ivanka has earned widespread admiration while working as an advisor to the president. As such, she has very vocally promoted a range of policies — sometimes in interviews — including entrepreneurship, education, paid family leave, and the economic empowerment of women. Ivanka, at times, has also stood in for her father on the global stage, further raising her profile both domestically and abroad.

Accordingly, it should come as no big surprise that Don Jr. and Ivanka are as popular as they are.

We will have to wait and see whether either of the president’s kids are truly in the running come 2024. But, for now, the focus should be on making sure Donald Trump gets another four years in office.
