Joe Biden bites his wife’s finger in latest campaign blunder

Former vice president and top 2020 contender Joe Biden has made a name for himself as a “gaffe machine” — and his strange mannerisms popped up yet again in Iowa last week.

Cameras captured the 2020 hopeful lightly nibbling on his wife Jill’s finger as she introduced him at a campaign event on Saturday in what Breitbart called yet another example of “bizarre behavior” from Uncle Joe.

He did…what?

The Bidens were in Council Bluffs, Iowa as part of the former VP’s latest tour of the country as he continues his run for the White House when the meme-worthy moment occurred. The former second lady, Dr. Jill Biden, was introducing her husband when she stretched her arm out to gesture toward him.

The 2020 hopeful initially dodged his wife’s hand to avoid being hit in the face, but soon after, he made a strange decision: he leaned in and appeared to bite his wife’s index finger, prompting chuckles from his wife and the audience, even as Jill immediately pulled away.

Take a look at footage of the incident shared by CBS’s Bo Erickson:

Where does Joe go from here?

Comments on Erickson’s tweet made it seems as though Joe Biden’s supporters were happy to shrug off his latest gaffe, calling it playful and flirtatious — nothing at all to be concerned about. But other commenters saw the move as just the latest sign that Joe Biden has no business running for president.

Indeed, from mixing up which state he’s in to mangling basic gun terminology, Joe Biden’s run on the campaign trail has been anything but a smooth one — and that shows in the polls.

While “Joe 30330” remains the frontrunner among the field of Democrats vying for their party’s nomination in 2020, he is slipping in state races.

According to RealClearPolitics, Biden is sitting comfortably with a national average of 27% support in the polls, well ahead of his closest rivals, Sens. Bernie Sanders (VT) and Elizabeth Warren (MA), who have seen support from 18.3% and 15.8% of voters, respectively.

In Iowa, however, Biden has slipped to fourth place, with an average of 16.3% support. That puts him behind South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who has 24% support, as well as Sanders and Warren, who are at 18.3% and 17.7% in Iowa, respectively.

Whether this finger-biting incident helps or hurts Biden with voters remains to be seen. But this isn’t the first time Biden has made some strange moves on the campaign trail — and we can bet it won’t be the last.
