Hillary Clinton suffers coughing fit on Howard Stern’s radio show: Report

Hillary Clinton suffered a coughing fit on Howard Stern’s radio show Wednesday.

Clinton lost her voice during a three-minute spell that prompted the shock jock to offer her a cough drop, Breitbart reported. The incident recalled coughing fits in 2016 that prompted speculation about Clinton’s health before the presidential election.

“You OK?”

The failed presidential candidate has been back in headlines recently as President Donald Trump faces impeachment, prompting speculation that she may still run for president a third time. But three years later, Clinton is once again suffering from the same kind of medical episodes that cast a cloud over her 2016 campaign.

“I feel like I need to give you a cough drop or something,” Stern said as Clinton began coughing. “You OK?”

“I got one,” Clinton replied.

But the former secretary of State kept coughing over Stern, who went on to recall Clinton’s previous medical incidents three years ago. The candidate suffered numerous coughing fits on the campaign trail, including a bout with pneumonia in September 2016 that coincided with a stumbling incident at a 9/11 memorial, Newsweek notes.

“I was dying,” Clinton told Stern in what Breitbart described as a “sarcastic raspy voice.” She went on: “I thought I would come on and cough some more.”

Tucker reacts

The coughing spells became a pseudo-campaign issue in 2016, when Clinton joked that she was “allergic” to Trump after a coughing spell in Cleveland. For his part, then-candidate Trump attacked Clinton over the medical episodes and later accused the media of burying reporting about her health.

If Clinton had won the presidency, apparently she’d still be having such fits at public events with world leaders. Responding to the most recent medical episode, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson played a supercut of Clinton’s coughing fits Wednesday night — with “COUGH” in all capitals flashing on the screen — and asked physician and Fox medical correspondent Marc Siegel for his take.

“You can’t diagnose from a videotape,” Carlson admitted, according to a video shared by Mediaite. “But this kind of thing, is it a concern?”

Siegel conjectured that Clinton could be stressed about talking to Stern, thinking about running for president again, or suffering from acid reflux caused by consuming too much alcohol, coffee, or foods like jalapeno peppers, all of which Clinton said she liked in 2016. Acid reflux can cause chronic coughing and asthma, he said.

“If you’re coughing, recurrent coughing, get to be seen, have a pulmonary work-up, make sure you don’t have reflux, asthma, pulmonary infections, or stress,” Siegel advised.
