Fox News bumps Carlson and Hannity to cover Trump rally in Mississippi

When it comes to drawing viewers, Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson are two of the biggest names at Fox News. However, there’s another figure whose ratings are even better: President Donald Trump.

That was evident last Friday night when the network replaced both hosts’ shows with coverage of Trump’s rally in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Millions tune in for Trump

Carlson was only on air briefly before devoting the rest of his show to the rally coverage. Mediaite reports that 3.345 million people tuned in for the episode. Over half a million were between the ages of twenty-five and fifty-four — an important demographic.

During Hannity’s time slot, the numbers were even more impressive.

Viewership hit 3.610 million, with 571,000 people falling within the 25-54 age range. Unlike Carlson, Hannity didn’t even make an appearance — guest host Jason Chaffetz filled in.

Carlson and Hannity’s nightly shows typically bring in 2.8 and 3.2 million viewers respectively.

Trump: Democrats want to “nullify” the 2016 election

Trump often takes shots at rivals during his rallies, and the one on Friday was no exception. He accused Democrats and the media of leading a “witch hunt” and called their efforts “deranged.”

“Shifty Adam Schiff and the media are continuing with the deranged impeachment witch hunt,” he declared. “This is one I never thought I would be involved in. The word ‘impeachment’–to me, it’s a dirty word, not a good word.”

Trump characterized attempts to remove him as “a totally phony deal” that would only increase his level of support. He then went on to say that Democrats were trying to subvert the electoral process and “nullify” the 2016 election.

“Yesterday the Democrats voted to potentially nullify the votes of 63 million Americans disgracing themselves and bringing shame upon the House of Representatives,” Trump declared. “They’ve been plotting to overthrow the election since the moment I won, but the people here that are highly sophisticated know long before I won.

“The American people,” he continued, “are fed up with Democrat lies, hoaxes, and extremism. The Democrats’ outrageous conduct has created an angry majority that will vote many do-nothing Democrats out of office in 2020.”
