DNC vice chair asks Fox News’ Bill Hemmer why Tucker Carlson still has a job

A Democratic Party operative used up airtime on Fox News to demand Tucker Carlson’s firing, the Washington Examiner reports.

“The core question is, why the hell does Tucker Carlson still have a job here in the first place?” asked Michael Blake, vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee. “The reality is, this is someone who said white supremacy is a hoax. And why does Fox allow him to still be here in the first place?”

Changing the subject

Blake appeared on America’s Newsroom with Bill Hemmer Tuesday morning to respond to Carlson’s recent comments about the possibility of Michelle Obama entering the 2020 race. But the Democrat, apropos of nothing, ignored the prompt and tried to make the conversation about Carlson instead.

Hemmer pushed back and repeated the question. When Blake persisted in attacking Carlson, Hemmer shot him down.

“Again, we didn’t bring you on to talk about Tucker Carlson. I brought you on to talk about the Democratic field,” Hemmer shot back.

For his rude, childish disruption, Blake received a glowing praise from a writer at the Washington Post, who said that he “[nailed] it.”

Carlson’s show has been the target of a pressure campaign this year, mostly on account of his criticism of mass immigration. The Fox host sparked boycotts on the left last December when he said that mass migration makes America “dirtier,” “poorer,” and “more divided,” and he rattled progressives by calling “white supremacy” a “hoax” after the El Paso mass shooting.

Leftist censorship

Blake’s obnoxious stunt drove home a truth of our political reality: no longer content with owning the mainstream media, the left is getting bolder and bolder about shutting down all dissenters. Of all those outwardly critical of the left’s agenda, Carlson might be the most articulate, and he is certainly one of the most powerful.

Indeed, the secret to Tucker’s success might, as Chris Buskirk argues, be a simple one: he openly and irreverently attacks America’s corrupt ruling class to an audience of millions nightly.

While the elites try to gaslight Americans with concerns about mass migration and a culture of political censorship, Carlson tells viewers that their anxieties are real and legitimate — that they are not “conspiracy theorists” or bigots — that the things they care about do matter.

Clearly, the elites aren’t a fan of his work. But despite repeated efforts by the left to shut him down, Carlson has one of the most-watched shows in cable television, and he is without question one of the most influential voices in American politics.

Blake’s demand is about one thing and one thing only: the left wants total control, and Carlson is a threat to that. It’s no wonder they fear him.
