Mark Twain famously quipped, “Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.”
One wonders what Twain would have thought of Alabama’s Democratic senator Doug Jones, who has managed to expose himself as one of the most transparently craven politicians in Washington in just two short years.
Jones has a tougher job than most Democrats – he has to placate Alabama’s conservative voters while sweet-talking the “woke police” that are rapidly taking over the Democratic party. He’s handling that job in an exceptionally incompetent manner.
In his latest attempt to pander to the left, Jones is trying to reverse his support of AG William Barr, whom he voted to confirm in the Senate, likely in an act of political calculation. In short, he wanted the voters in Alabama to think of him as a moderate.
But on Twitter, it’s a different story. There, he wants the woke left to think he’s one of them. That explains this tweet:
It’s a fair question Deb. I had hoped that AG Barr would be in the mold of Bill Ruckelshaus, especially given the possible alternatives & the times we live in, but he has shown that he clearly is not. So with the benefit of hindsight my answer is no, my vote would not be the same https://t.co/Lkq6etGfpO

Of course, the word got out and the tweet was covered by Alabama reporters, thus exposing Jones as trying to have it both ways.
Here’s a prediction: Doug Jones isn’t long for the Senate.
