Michelle Obama: ‘White folks’ are ‘still running’ from minority neighborhoods

Michelle Obama indulged in a bit of casual anti-white racism at a recent event.

The former first lady took a swipe at white people for “running” from black neighborhoods in Chicago’s South Side when she was growing up — and according to the multi-millionaire author, it’s still a problem.

“As we moved in, white folks moved out because they were afraid of what our families represented,” Obama said at the 3rd annual Obama Foundation Summit Tuesday. “Y’all were running from us. And you’re still running.”

Blanket generalizations

Among the most powerful and well-liked women in America, Obama now occupies a secure place within America’s liberal elite. The former first lady and her husband reportedly bought a mansion in Martha’s Vineyard, and to their most enthusiastic admirers, they are virtually exiled royalty.

From this position of — one might call it privilege — Obama has deigned to lecture Americans with lessons drawn from her deeply narcissistic view of life, captured in her best-selling memoir Becoming. Like her race-baiting husband, though, Obama is a sworn enemy of racism who seems to think it’s also okay to make blanket generalizations about white people in America.

“I want to remind white folks that y’all were running from us… This family, with all the values that you read about, you were running from us. And you’re still running because we’re no different than the immigrant families that are moving in,” she said.

Presumably, Obama thinks that all white people support immigration restrictions and do so for the sole reason that they’re afraid of immigrants. She also seemed to suggest that countries are marked off by “artificial” boundaries.

“The families that are coming from other places to try to do better. But, because we can so easily wash over who we really were — because of the color of our skin, because of the texture of our hair — that’s what divides countries, artificial things.” .

Barack’s measured tone

For his part, though, Mr. Obama sounded more measured than his “woke” wife. The former president lambasted the kind of woke scolds who feel the need to judge others for being insufficiently radical. “The world is messy. There are ambiguities. People who do really good stuff have flaws,” he said in a viral moment.

Of course, Obama’s moderate tone only sounds sensible when compared with the derangement of the modern left. This is the president who helped ignite the current racial divide, who once maligned conservatives as hillbillies bitterly “clinging” to their Bibles and their guns, who presided over the most sweeping cultural revolution in decades with the federal legalization of gay marriage.

Oddly, Obama seemed to be describing his own wife’s mentality. He seemed to acknowledge that the entirety of white America is not a monolithic, racist blob.

Someone should tell Mrs. Obama about those “ambiguities.”
