With Ginsburg’s retirement looming, left goes after Kavanaugh in a bid to delegitimize the Supreme Court

With the ailing Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s eventual retirement highlighting the potential for a massive shift in the Supreme Court’s balance of power, leftist activists and the media are once again going after Justice Brett Kavanaugh. And by threatening to impeach a sitting justice on the strength of uncorroborated allegations, they are attacking not just Kavanaugh, but the Supreme Court itself.

Why? The left’s worst nightmare is that Ginsburg’s health further declines, forcing her to retire before the 2020 election and allowing Trump to win with another conservative justice appointment — shifting the court to a 6-3 conservative tilt. Although for now, the 85-year-old justice seems healthy enough to stay on the court, in the last twelve months she went through treatment for cancer in her lungs, and more recently, a pancreatic tumor.

Left desperate for power

With little real power in the executive and legislative branches, the left has held on to the courts, where many Clinton appointees still remained to thwart President Donald Trump’s executive orders on immigration and other priorities.

But the Supreme Court’s recent ruling slapping down appeals court overreach on Trump’s asylum restrictions has shown that even the left’s judicial power is shaky. Their last hope to implement their radical agenda is vanishing into thin air.

“Whatever they tell you, don’t let them tell you that justice has any role in this. Of course, this is a pure power grab,” Fox News’ host Tucker Carlson commented on Monday night. “The left feels entitled to run the country — truly entitled to and they feel entitled to control the Supreme Court. If they don’t, it drives them crazy.”

Targeting Kavanaugh

The New York Times’ latest claim about Justice Brett Kavanaugh is a last-ditch, desperate attempt to delegitimize him — and the entire Court. It’s entirely by design that the 2020 Democrat presidential candidates jumped on the impeachment bandwagon in regards to Kavanaugh even after the Times had to effectively retract the allegation because the alleged victim didn’t testify or even remember the incident.

“Kavanaugh frustrates their political hopes. So any smear against him is acceptable, no matter what it is,” Carlson said. “But don’t kid yourself. It’s not just about destroying Brett Kavanaugh; he is ancillary. It’s about destroying the entire legitimacy of our third branch of government, the judiciary.”

Upcoming cases could devastate the left

Some of the cases the Supreme Court is due to hear in the upcoming term could prove devastating to the left’s agenda. A major case about gun rights in New York could result in nationwide concealed carry rights. The census citizenship question may come up again, as well as Trump’s legal authority to undo DACA.

No direct challenge to Roe v. Wade is in the pipeline, but it may only be a matter of time as some lower court cases make their way through the appeals process. While the left may have made some progress with public opinion on gun control and gay marriage, they have lost ground on immigration and abortion.

The Supreme Court’s decisions could radically reshape the legal landscape because of Trump’s nominees, and the conservative majority could last for decades if Trump gets to appoint another justice while he is president.

For the right, it’s the situation they’ve been waiting for, and a major reason for electing Trump in the first place. Trump knew this when he decided to fight for Brett Kavanaugh instead of slink away in defeat, and the American public supported his strong stand in the face of intense opposition.

We can’t let the left continue to smear the Court’s justices and delegitimize the Court. The next step is liberal states choosing to defy and ignore its rulings, and the breakdown of the Constitution itself is at risk.
