When it comes to the Bidens, Trump says corruption isn’t limited to Ukraine: ‘Take a look at China’

In remarks to reporters on Sunday before heading to Houston for a rally with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Donald Trump defended his July phone call with Ukraine and blasted Joe Biden for his son’s dealings with the European nation while Joe was vice president.

Biden has been under scrutiny amid reports that Trump asked Ukrainian leadership to begin an investigation into the former vice president and his son, Hunter, over unconfirmed charges of shady business dealings. But according to Trump, it’s not just Ukraine we should be worried about.

“Well, not only Ukraine, take a look at China,” Trump told reporters, according to C-SPAN. “They [the Bidens] took a tremendous amount of money out of China. Now, if they ever took over the China negotiations, [Biden] would sell us out. Look at all the money he made in China. The son, he knew nothing. The son is a stiff. He knew nothing and he’s making hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars. And he did the same thing to Ukraine.”

Government corruption on display

Trump was referring to allegations outlined in an upcoming book, which claims that a private equity firm run by Biden’s son inked a billion-dollar deal with Ukraine just 10 days after Biden and his son visited there in 2013.

Peter Schweizer writes about the deal in Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends, according to an excerpt in the New York Post.

Schweizer reported that “the Chinese government was literally funding a business that it co-owned along with the sons of two of America’s most powerful decision-makers” — Hunter Biden and Chris Heinz, the son of John Kerry.

Schweizer lays out the situation in great detail, describing how the fund — called Rosemont Seneca — was created, and how it made a billion-dollar deal with China just 10 days after Hunter Biden, his daughter, and Joe Biden made a state visit to China where the vice president had meetings with high-level Chinese officials.

The research done by Schweizer shows that while Joe Biden can rightly claim that he doesn’t have great wealth to show for his time in office, his son Hunter does. It’s part of a pattern of politicians’ offspring allegedly using their parents’ positions for their own benefit, which is documented at length in the new book.

The problem, according to Schweizer, isn’t that the current president is being so vigorously investigated in order to look for wrongdoing. The real problem is that Democrat politicians, particularly in the Obama administration, are not being investigated much at all — despite situations like this that deserve the same scrutiny.

If journalists would spend as much time investigating Democrats as they have trying desperately to get dirt on Trump, there would probably never be another Democrat politician elected again.

That’s exactly why they don’t do it.
