Fox News star Tucker Carlson is a frequent critic of New York City mayor and Democratic presidential hopeful Bill de Blasio, but this week, de Blasio agreed to appear on Carlson’s television show for a one-on-one interview.
Carlson didn’t hold back, pressing the mayor on topics ranging from homelessness in New York City to gun confiscation to climate change hypocrisy.

Tucker presses Bill de Blasio: NYC is dirty, and getting dirtier
Democratic presidential candidate and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio discusses automation, the state of NYC under his leadership and his bid for the presidency on ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight.’ #Tucker #FoxNews FOX News operates the FOX News Channel (FNC), FOX Business Network (FBN), FOX News Radio, FOX News Headlines 24/7, FOXNews.com and the direct-to-consumer streaming service, FOX Nation.
“The city smells like urine”
New York’s problem with homelessness has been growing in recent years, with a 2018 Housing and Urban Development report finding that over fourteen percent of the nation’s homeless live in the city. Carlson confronted the topic head-on.
“Have you noticed? The city smells like urine,” he pointed out. “That city is not getting better under your mayorship.”
Carlson also challenged de Blasio’s pledge to restrict people’s ability to defend themselves, asking “Would you subject your bodyguards to the same limitations as other American citizens?” De Blasio wasn’t impressed by the question, stating, “I respect you, but that’s a question that makes no sense whatsoever,” before mentioning a recent mass shooting in Texas.
Carlson pointed out that at least some gun owners would resist efforts at gun confiscation, leading to large-scale violence. “The cops would show up and say give us your gun and they would say no and you would have, unfortunately, tragically, you would have cases of violence,” he predicted. “Are you OK with that?”
De Blasio seemed to think such violence would be acceptable, claiming that “we have seen the devastating impact” of not doing so.
Further, Carlson hit de Blasio on his professed concern about global warming, demanding, “How can you take an SUV to the gym and back every day and say you’re really worried about climate change?”
The mayor responded by denying that his vehicle is an SUV (Chrysler describes it as a minivan), pointing out that it is a hybrid, and argued that using a vehicle is simply how he stays “connected to people.” The Democrat later waved off Carlson’s critique by saying, “Oh come on, it’s a few miles.”
In the end, Carlson said that despite their disagreements, de Blasio was still in his “good graces” because he had “the stones to come on this show.”
“Come back anytime,” Carlson concluded.
