Trump attorney suggests ‘whistleblower’ complaint was written by law firm

Perhaps we’re already getting to the point at which it is necessary to investigate the origins of the “whistleblower” complaint that has been dominating news coverage this week and has triggered an official impeachment inquiry.

Jay Sekulow, one of President Donald Trump’s personal lawyers, now believes that the “whistleblower” complaint was actually written by “a law firm.”

Wait, who wrote it?

Sekulow made this suggestion during a Friday appearance on “Fox & Friends” while discussing the whistleblower situation. According to him, there are ample reasons to call the complaint itself into question.

“So, when you start with a witness saying,” said Sekulow, “‘I have no knowledge of the events I’m depicting here, and I’m basing this on conversations I had with colleagues of mine, and I think they are trustworthy.’ Well, do you know if they heard it correctly? ‘Well, I don’t know because I don’t have firsthand knowledge.’ And do you think the whistleblower drafted that complaint? I mean realistically?”

Sekulow, here, is referring to what was said in the complaint itself, which was declassified and released to the public on Thursday, the day before his interview with Fox.

The complaint

As things currently stand, the whistleblower is believed to be a member of the CIA. This individual apparently filed the now-released complaint in which he made allegations about President Trump’s July 25th phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian President.

During that conversation, Trump is said to have asked Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and son, Hunter Biden, who both have their own ties to Ukraine. But, now, Sekulow believes there is a reason to call the complaint itself into question.

“You think they had help? Did they have help?” asked host Steve Doocy.

“Look at the phraseology, the endnotes, and the footnotes,” said Sekulow. “This wasn’t drafted by this individual. This was written by a law firm. And you know what? The American people see it for what it is. No one has the — nobody has the appetite for this anymore. They want to keep doing it? Call for a vote. That’s my tell for [House Judiciary Chairman] Jerry Nadler and [House Intelligence Chairman] Adam Schiff. Call for a vote. Just go ahead and do it.”

Sekulow’s concern is shared by former CIA official Fred Fleitz, who wrote that the complaint “appears to be written by a law professor.” In an op-ed for The New York Post on Thursday, Fleitz wrote:

From my experience, such an extremely polished whistleblowing complaint is unheard of. This document looks as if this leaker had outside help, possibly from congressional members or staff.

Russia all over again

If they are right, then this is starting to look like Russia collusion part two, with the Democrats, assisted by the intelligence community, going to extreme lengths to take down President Donald Trump.

One key difference, however, is that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, this time around, has launched an impeachment inquiry. But who is it going to hurt most — Trump or the Democrats?
